Money-wise, we are paying a ton of money right now

If you think about it. This past season we paid Miles $3.7M, Crowton $400k, and our entire defensive staff around $800k. Now we have, if the rumors of what O was offered are true, $500k for Chavis + $650k for O, at least $200k for DB coach and around $200k for Robinson. That goes from $800k total to $1.55M or almost double. So in total for coaching, not including offensive position coaches that we are paying, $5.7 million per year.
That is absurd.

Well, in all honesty, very little of the salaries are paid directly by the University or state. The athletic deparmtment pays over 90% I'd imagine through TAF.
The bigger issue is the premium put on football by these salaries, and even worse is that the fans will be paying for it through the nose. People want to say our tickets are on par or below some other schools, but most don't have these retarded "tradition fund" requirements to even be able to buy tickets.
It just seems kind of ridiculous to be paying assistant coaches a total of near $3 million a year.

Yeah, the salaries of the assistant coaches (basically O and Chavis) will increase by about $750,000 next year. However, very little of that money will be paid directly from the university. It should come mostly from donations from high-ranking boosters, much like at Alabama, UF, and other programs with wealthy alumni who love football.
Still, we probably pay our assistants more than anyone else, which is frustrating considering how much Les makes as well.

That is why we have 8 home games. That's also why I never complain about our schedule. I'd rather be able to pay coaches top dollar than play a Big 12 bottom feeder just to say it was a BCS conference game.

Exactly.
If massive changes were not made the donations this off season would be greatly reduced from where were a year ago and where they will be now.

mhasen1, that is my point. People want to bitch and moan about getting a top team, then bitch and moan about ticket prices, followed by bitching and moaning about playing too many home games or a crappy schedule.
In the end I think its ridiculous Miles is getting $3.7 million a year. I think it is stupid to pay Saban $4 million a year when just 10 years ago, we wouldn't even pay DiNardo over $500k.

I agree, no one person is worth that much money. However, if you don't do it, someone will. You want to be the guy on bottom or on top. that's the reality question.

agreed dos. It's just sad that these guys are willing to force for that much money. Look at Paterno at PSU. He gets like $200k a year or less and refuses raises for himself.
