I’ve no idea how to read this hire. Last time he was a college DC was East Tenner State.

Journeyman coach in the NFL.

Any Browns fans round these parts with a though?

You really like this hire? What kind of scheme is he expected to run?

Wilks was hired in 2019 and was here for the disastrous Freddie Kitchens year. Kevin Stefanski has said he would have hired Wilks if he had gotten the job last year, but when he was tapped to replace Kitchens in 2020, he eventually chose to go with Ed Woods from the 49ers. Wilks did a decent job in 2019, especially given the dismal state of the offense under Kitchens and the rash of injuries that plagued the Browns defense all year. (That curse carried over to this year, unfortunately, especially in the secondary, where Grant Delpit and Greedy Williams were expected to start before suffering season-ending injuries in training camp.)

Here's a link to a story that appeared in the Plain Dealer when Stefanski was still trying to decide whether to keep Wilks or go with Woods. It goes over the pros and cons of Wilks' defenses with the Browns. I'll be interesting to see what he does at Missouri.

touche, and I wont be a browns fan once they get rid a friend. - Short stay.

All I know is he runs a 4-3 and loves to blitz on 3rd down.

Good article. Thanks!

I don't see how this isn't a grand slam hire for Drinkwitz. He purges the team of the last remnants of the Odom regime and brings in a long time, successful NFL defensive coach who will teach our youngsters the latest pro schemes and techniques.

I can't wait to see who he hires as the new DL coach. We have 5 or 6 incoming DL freshmen.
