Both were handled with class and efficiency.

Bob Stoop retired in June. I doubt OU had any choice but to promote from within at that time.

MSU and their fanbase both had reasonable expectations for the new hire. The fans weren't convinced a former Super Bowl winning coach was coming to lead their program. Likewise, MSU didn't drag their feet and allow information to get out to make anyone believe they were attempting to hire a top tier coach.

The Tennessee fan's crazy expectations coupled with their AD's decision to hire a guy no one else seemed interested in created this storm. Hell, LSU faced the same situation last year. But at least their fans didn't go completely bonkers and start some huge social media campaign and get the state legislature involved. They just made the Tiger Rant more insufferable than it usually is.

Oklahoma had no choice and Stoops did it on purpose to give his man a job. Miss St knows they can't hire a known head coach. Tennessee feels like they have to hire a known head coach but they aren't a good program right now so expectations are false. Knowing who to ask out is a big part of being who you are.
