Did you have less respect for him in 2007?

Courtesy? Courtesy? Are you kidding me. So let me get this straight Miles walks in and says:

"Look guys I know what this is about I appreciate the want you have for me at Michigan. I am only meeting with you as a courtesy because you asked me to and I am just following the protocol. I thank you but because of how I answered a specific reporter and agreed to this meeting. I am getting a SWEEEEET deal back at LSU which is a wonderful place, I've got them by the balls."

Oh and HAVE A GREAT DAY

Okay.

You're right. In business, people never leverage their employer for more money.

It's simple economics.

FWIW, I think it's 50/50 right now. I wouldn't be shocked either way.

LATIGER89, why are you so upset at the fans.?? Miles is def. using this as leverage and also showing his old college respect and granting them this interview. "thats all their is to it"

It would be hard for him to leave when you just recruited a guy ( Mettengber) who could take you to the National championship next year. Also way to much money to throw away. Michigan will not give Miles a 4.0 million salary that is guaranteed over 5 years.

I do agree, that if he leaves LSU , LSU will be fine!

In an upcoming book on Rich Rodriguez and Michigan football, the author states pretty clearly that Les was the pursuer in 2007, not the pursuee. In the above Link there is some mention of Miles' calls to Michigan in 2007 going unreturned. I know this isn't what most LSU fans want to hear, but Les loves Michigan and wants the job.

Logic would tell you that if he wanted the job then, he wants it now. Maybe even more so, because now he can cement his legacy by being the man to put Michigan back on the map.

I firmly believe that Michigan will offer and Les will accept. They wouldn't do the official interview dance if they weren't really close to a deal.

I also firmly believe that Les won't be hard to replace. I think there are a lot of coaches who are salivating over this job and all of the talent that Les has assembled.

I disagree, he will be hard to replace and he will have a inroad to recruiting noone has in the big 10. People act like it is easy to get the right guy well it isn't. One thing to ask yourself is what does Mettenburgh do. He came here by most indications becuase of Les Miles does he stay with all the uncertainty or does he follow the man who recruited him here.

IF Les stays, we def have to negotiate more years on his contract. He cannot effectively recruit if he can't promise a recruit he will be here for their entire career.

The LSU football program is bigger than Les Miles and it's bigger than Zach Mettenberger. We will be fine with or without either one.

Don't be so naive as to think that Alleva doesn't have at least 1 or 2 guys in his back pocket should Les bolt. It may not be a "done deal" yet, but I am confident Alleva has gotten at least a verbal commitment from a potential replacement. He would be crazy not to have gauged interest by now. Anyone paying attention could have seen this coming a mile away. Rich Rod's seat has been blazing hot for a while now, and Les was very high on their list.

My guess is the OP is fresh out of high school and has no memory of the Saban era.

Agreed, I would be surprised if Michigan hasn’t already spoken to Les Miles’s agent if there was any interest whatsoever.

You should always listen when someone is going to offer you a job especially a job that at one time was your dream job. It's different now because in 2007 they offered him LESSmoney because it was the "Michigan" job. I think they realize they have to make a pretty good deal now. Unless it's alot more money I think he stays mainly because his kids seem pretty happy here.

Don't worry....when they hear him speak....they'll rule him out.

Here's how it starts:

Q: So Les what do you think you can bring to this program?

A: Well, we'll be fine. We have a damn strong football team and their desire to win is like no other. I look forward to next year.

ahhh OK....

Q: Les, Would you say your coaching style is rather risky and unorthodox?

A: Oh I love these guys, they just go out and give me everything they got. I dont have to do much....the talent get's 'er done!

For what it's worth, Brandon has said they will pay market value for their next coach. Rumors out of AA have stated he was willing to offer over 5 mil for Harbaugh, so I do not think offering more than 4 mil will be a problem.

Not necessarily true. I was up for a position at an industry leader and it came down to me and one other person, who got the gig. Three years later, she was gone, I was with another company and very successful. They came calling. I listened. I went to their facility. I met with everyone. I ended the day in front of the CEO, who asked me when I could start. At that moment, I knew, I was no longer wanting the position, and I told him so. He was dejected and asked why I'd seemed so interested, so I told him it was a great position, but that things change and I determined I was in a better spot where I was. I thanked him for the interest, but flew home and never looked back.

It's time for Michigan to stop dancing with it's hands on Miles arse and make a move.

To the contrary (and it's all speculation at this point)...

I thought his capitulation about staying indicated a power/money play more than he was leaving. If he was leaving and was trying to hide it, he would have had a response ready.
