He was a swell guy by most accounts. LSU didn't put a lot into their football program at that time so mediocre results were ok. Hell we drove Arnsparger away because we wouldn't invest in the program. It took Saban and Emmert to start spending money and Miles has done a great job continuing it.

so the point is, no matter what, there is already a built-in 'reason', if you will, as to why next year's team will lose games.
miles apologists already started the myth that we will be "young" at QB next year...with an upperclassman with 1 full year starting at the helm

I'm not really trying to build any excuses.
Just saying that lsu is still pretty young next year.
I'm also beginning to think that some of you have little or no perspective and are irrational criticizers of everything lsu.

i think 3-4 loss seasons are down years for elite programs
Then you are more delusional than Michigan fans wanting Harbaugh.
By your logic, any program you consider elite should get rid of their coaches with the exception of 4 teams.

Miles said he wasn't going to UM at his press conference
Saban doesn't play second fiddle to Bear. He has a statue outside the stadium he currently coaches in.
Right believe that... Gene stalling also has a statue.... Trust me he is second fiddle to the bear no matter what.. Unfortunately related to life long Bama fans and Bear will always be known as bama's best and favorite coach don't act like a statue changes that.

So not wanting to irrationally Fire the coach makes you a miles apologist?
I would love for you to state what you want. Is it to fire everyone?

We should have beaten Alabama in 2012 but for some bone headed coaching decisions. We then went on to choke against Clemson costing us an 11th win. That's a disappointing season.
2013, we absolutely choked against Ole Miss, otherwise we would have finished with 11 wins again. We didn't it so it was another disappointing season.
This year we were young so 8-4 was kinda expected. However losing to Arkansas was atrocious. We should have closed out Alabama, no excuses how that slipped away. But we were young. The issue most have with this season is not the W/L record, but the absolutely atrocious job the staff did with QB development so we go into another year with no definitive QB. We have an experienced one who does not have it, and a QB who has it but has been given no consistent opportunity to gain experience.

quote:but right or not, that will be the narrative of the losses, won't it? people will just chalk it up to youth or 'youthful execution', not paying much mind to maybe a bad coaching decision or two, which seemed to be the narrative for 2014.
Just saying that lsu is still pretty young next year.
2014 narrative: Offense looks like crap? Shut out at Arkansas? Yep, we're young.
2015 narrative: If the offense still looks like crap? Yep, we're still young ?

where did i say we should fire miles in this thread?
miles is like a 6.50-7.0 (out of 10.0) coach. not terrible. not elite. he didn't frick up what saban built. has gotten lucky as frick to save a bunch of games. he's a decent enough CEO-type with major issues directing the offensive side of the ball.

Losing 3-4 games this season is expected and understandable. Some coaching issues cost us 11 wins in 2012 and 2013 and maybe an SEC or NC.
However this year went as expected minus Arkansas. However the QB development and coaching and anything related to them and the offense was pretty atrocious.

I don't know what the narrative will be but i'm curious why you and sfp are definitely saying next season will be terrible and need "excuses".
Posted on 12/15/14 at 9:50 pm to BeeFense5
where have i said next year will be terrible?
it could turn into the best season of all time.
but if it doesn't i'm afraid the same narratives from 2014 will be transferred to 2015, as if there was no progression from one year to another.

3 of the top offenses in school history have been under Miles

The narrative for 2015 is already there - a young offensive line.
If the offense sputters next year (which it will), the blame will be placed on the incredibly young and inexperienced offensive line.

You keep asking what the narrative will be or what are the excuses.
Correct me if I'm wrong but that sounds like a pretty negative outlook
