Yeah the program is currently on a spiral . Can the program be resurrected? Maybe it depends on the administration, boosters and coaching staff. Just how bad do they want a successful program?
The worst that would happen is shut the program down until…

From what I hear the AD isn't well liked by most.

The old school McNeese guys don't care for him, but sometimes that could be considered a plus. He seems to be a flashy guy and promises the world but the football program has spiraled on his watch.

He has a basketball background, so I believe the Wade hire is the feather in his cap. Football hasn't been a priority for him.

I mean he was the MBB coach before he was the AD

I think it was a crisis hire due to Laura.

It’s hard to see programs like App St,, Marshall, JMU etc etc able to mold into what’s needed when these were teams that McNeese was able to go toe to toe with in recent history.

Agreed. When they went to the playoffs in 2002, they beat Montana, Montana State, Villanova, but lost to Western Kentucky in the big game. Unbelievable how far they’ve fallen.

We used to go all the time in the glory days.

Every weekend when I was a kid.

When they started charging people for tailgate spots everyone we k ew who tailgated and had season passes quit going and gave up their passes.

It was like the air was let out of a balloon. Lots went from full as shite to a ghost town where we setup. My dad's friend who owned a business who cooked every tailgate shut his down and said it was the beginning of the end...

It sure seemed to be.

What year did that happen? Don’t they still do big tailgates for baseball in that same parking lot?

Somewhere around 1998 if I remember right. I was in middle school.

It was a blast. My buddy dad gave it all up and said to hell with it he'd drive to LSU and tailgate there. Got 6 season tickets and we started going to Tiger games. It was when I hung up my mcneese hat and swapped it for a LSU hat.

I haven't been back to a mncesse football game since.

My wife and I graduated from mcneese. I have two degrees.

It wasnt till lasst year we went back and got baseball season tickets half price and started going. Mainly to get the kids involved in local university to build some familiarity for when college time comes if they go.

Amazing the effect it had. Maybe it was just me but we still hang around a lot of those families and it's all similar. They still all go to Tiger games and none of their kids my age went to mcneese. They all went to LSU and a few Tulane.

Those 80s/90s/00s were sprinkled with P5 transfers that got buried on their depth chart and didn’t want to sit out a year. Grad transfer rule and now transfer portal killed that route for talent

That is where Mcneese got alot of their difference makers. A built in advantage that went away.

Now those types of players will just transfer to other FBS/ 1A schools
