I'm guessing other schools are finding out that Saban assistants are damaged goods (Dooley, Muschamp).

Pat Hill is a friend of McElwain's. He may not have felt he had Hill's blessing...or Hill may have mentioned that Fresno gired him after he voluntarily took a $300k pay-cut because the athletic dept needed money.
Either way, McElwain will make nearly the same amount of money next year as OC at Bama as he would as HC at Fresno.

The guy has tons of job security at Bama, a great salary, has had a consistently good offense every year he has been here (4 years), and has a QB and talented OL returning next year. In addition the defense will be young and inexperienced and the team might actually have to rely on an aggressive offense and take a few more risks. No reason to rush this. He is waiting for the right fit.
