Why do you want a lame duck coach fired just to hire another one ? Ole Miss will have to wait for the effects from the NCAA punishment to be over .

That's basically over this offseason.

I can’t wait for our dumbass athletic director to buy out our current coordinators and then add some new ones for multi-year deals only to fire Matt next year when we bottom out at 3 wins and have to pay them out too. We are digging ourselves a massive hole.
You know it’s coming. It’s like we have given the keys to the candy store to a bunch of children.
“Hey Matt! How would you like a $3,000,000 chocolate fudge bar with nuts? You’d love it? Well how about we triple it and guarantee it, big boy???!!!”

This. The new coach, who will inevitably not be hired until after the 2019 season, will not be a lame duck.

Just curious, why do you have Addazio on there?
Posted on 11/20/18 at 10:53 pm to FearlessFreep
Gus is only leaving Auburn for Ole Miss in a pine box IMO FWIW

I see several posts about Leach to Ole Miss being far fetched. However, I haven’t seen any substance to that assertion.
Please advise why Leach to Ole Miss is so unlikely
If Ole Miss wants him I don’t think it’s that far fetched. I don’t think it would be cheap but you could get him. My god what I would give to be a fly on the wall the first time he interacts with Ole Miss boosters. If he didn’t win soon I could see your fans turning on him so fast

The Ole Miss wish-list is always funny to me. Let's look back at their recent coaching hires and be realistic for a second.
Matt Luke - this one maybe shouldn't count b/c of the sanctions, but he was an OL coach that most wanted fired from that position. Literally did not have to beat out a single other job offer, nobody was calling for him. First time HC
Hugh Freeze - One year of experience at the D-1 level (Ark St.), a couple years at an NAIA school, and only a handful of years away from coaching high school ball at a small private school. Plenty of rumors swirled long before any true public scandal. Again, not the hottest commodity (admittedly, he was fairly successful even if they are paying for that success now). Also, he was originally a package deal when he delivered Mike Oher and Greg Hardy from his high school team.
Houston Nutt - had just been chased away with pitchforks from a division rival
Ed Orgeron - career assistant who was noted for his great ability to recruit (...at USC...during the Pete Carroll dynasty). This was honestly viewed as a coup for Ole Miss, it ended horrifically. First time HC
David Cutcliffe - happened to be the QB coach for UT when Peyton went there. Was hired primarily to bring Eli to Ole Miss, he did and they had moderate success. First time HC
Tommy Tuberville - honestly it was so long ago I don't remember, but apparently he was on the defensive side of some really strong Miami teams and eventually A&M. He left them for a division rival. First time HC.
So in the past 20+ years, they've hired 4/6 first time head coaches. Of the other two, one had literally just been fired from a division rival and the other had 1-year of head coaching experience at a reasonable level (he was also deeply tied-in with the Ole Miss booster network, and we see exactly how that turned out).
So being realistic and considering where this team is right now, I'd say Ole Miss will be getting a re-tread head coach who wasn't super successful in their last stop. Or a career coordinator who comes with a decent amount of baggage.
Ole Miss is maybe a Kansas State level program, but with Auburn level expectations

He beat Bama twice in a row, including once at BDS. That’s gotta sting.

I said "admittedly, he was fairly successful". Also, I hope those regular season wins from 3 and 4 years ago are keeping your spirits up
as Bama is eyeing its 6th natty in 10 years

They are paying O, a coach who could not get another HC job, 3.5 million, but they have more money. We are paying Luke, a coach who could not get another HC job, 3 million.
I’ll wager USoCal wishes they could redo that entire hire over again and promote O from interim to HC.
USoCal missing on the O hire does not mean O was someone who could not get a HC job. It means the AD at LSU did a better job interviewing O to see his growth. It was all there in USoCal’s lap! That’s where he changed and grew up! And they would rather have Lynn Swann running their athletic department.

Not as bad as having the SECW gift wrapped and waiting for you in the locker room with tickets to Atlanta, the only thing needed was to hold Arkansas to 24 yards or less on 4th down. That 25th yard must be the stinger!

Doubtful.. Aranda wouldn’t be there to save his arse, and he wouldn’t be able to hire an OC he trusted. Had they hired him then, guarantee he wouldn’t be there at this point in time.

I just had a wonderful idea about how Matt Luke can truly get fired. He could make some real boneheaded moves today in the Egg Bowl. Punting when he shouldn’t, kicking field goals instead of going for it. Passing on a running down or running in passing situations. Prevent defense when they should be pressing. All kinds of wonderful opportunities to be made to be a fool. Last but not least, just plain getting beat by 50.

But that’s what he’s going to do, anyway... and keep his job.

Ole Miss would be wise to look at Scott Satterfield at Appy St if they want to replace Luke. I'll bet UNC takes a hard look at him when they run Fedora.
Maybe you should be putting feelers out to Larry about the OC job.

DC McGriff is gone. I hope that’s just a start.

Who’s gonna take that job right now?
I mean two years from now is a different story, but no coach worth Dick is putting himself in a no win situation.
