If you want a good young coach who runs a 3-3-5 defense and runs a spread offense.. look no further than Matt Campbell. I just don’t understand why his name isn’t getting tossed around if you are willing to spend 10-12 mil.

I love Lincoln Riley, but Matt has out coached him in 3 of their last 4 meetings. The talent gap between these two schools is the moon, but Campbell keeps the games close.

He has taken recruiting classes in the mid 40s and had his team consistently in the top 25. Everybody talks about him wanting to stay in the Midwest. Let’s see what 10 mil could buy us, and give him the resources to compete at the highest level.

Last year he beat the shite out of the Cristobal’s Ducks in the Fiesta bowl.

Whenever someone from the Midwest gets suggested, we get the inevitable “won’t leave the Midwest.”

Maybe that’s always true, but the Midwest isn’t anything spectacular, so I can’t imagine that it’s as universal as people claim.

I love Campbell. He’s in my second tier after the unrealistic coaches (for me Riley rhule Petersen)

Matt and Dave are the two on my wishlist.

I live just south of Ames and would love to see Campbell at LSU. I realize he lost a couple of games this year and some of his stock dropped, but that can happen to anybody. I don’t just love the 3-3-5 defense, but I’m also not a coach that would know exactly how to tweak and make it work. If it’s Campbell, I’m ok with that.

Matt Campbell is 41, and yet has won 6 coach of the year awards.

That’s more than Jimbo, Napier, Cristobal and Riley combined.

Because every time his name comes up one of you Iowa guys says there's no way he's leaving Iowa and he wouldn't be a good fit. Honestly, I thought you were one of the ones shooting it down.

Campbell and Fickell are probably right below Riley for me. I'd do backflips if we got either of them.

That’s a fair point. I have never said that, because I have only been in this area for about a year. But I get where you are coming from. I will say, given a personal choice to live up here, or Baton Rouge, I’m choosing Iowa. But I also don’t make millions of dollars, either.

Maybe because napier is a candidate and Napier took him to the woodshed last year?

With only 1/3 of the talent they have at Iowa st?

Just a guess

Campbell is a good coach. He'd be a solid hire. My wife's family are Iowa State folks. She's from Ames, so I keep an eye on them.

Using one game sample sizes to rank coaches is one of the dumber things on CCB, which is really saying something.
