And Jordan Jefferson has developed more than North Texas' QB too...

Don't forget that LSU talent > OTHER talent. Therefore, the results have to be better...

You have to compare our young QBs with Florida, USC, Texas, Oklahoma. Not the scrubs.

Jordan plays against an army of 5 stars and all Americans, and DCs like saban, strong, nix, ellis johnson...

harris doesnt, so any talent advantage Jordan may have on the offensive side is immediately negated.

That's my point... He points out that J. Harris is no better than JJ.

So, I point out that you have to include Lee and JJ's stats because Crowton developed both, and both played.

Miami had the highest OOC strength of schedule in the nation this year... Their first 4 games were Fla St, Ga Tech, Va tech, and Oklahoma.

Mark Whipple BIO: This guy is the best out there. His track record is incredible. He is responsible for developing Ben Roethlisberger and Jacory Harris this past year. His offense is EXPLOSIVE wherever he goes...

you wrote EXPLOSIVE in all caps, so i assume youre serious.

he wasnt OC in Pittsburgh, but that offense was anything but explosive. Ben played fine but in 2004 and 2005, the Steelers led the league in rushing attempts and were last in the league in passing attempts. that team threw the ball like it was made of stone. Bens a good qb, but he was the 11th overall pick. he was a good QB before too.

here are Miamis offensive numbers this year with Whipple as OC:

62nd rush offense. 144 ypg.
27th pass offense. 268 ypg.
36th total offense. 412 ypg.
27th scoring offense. 31 ppg.
109th in interceptions. 17 INTs.
30th in passing efficiency.

He may be a good choice, but people on here are just making shite up when they talk about his amazing track record. you act like Miles would be an idiot for not hiring him today. this is jon tenuta all over again.

i wasnt arguing with you, just answering another post. but ill answer this post of yours:

this would be a fantastic point if this were 1993.

so, miami played 2 good teams and 2 terrible ones. and one of the two good teams (GaTech) has a very average defense (58th scoring D, 54th total D, 47th pass D)

While at UMass, he posted a 49-26 (.653) record in six years (1998-2003) leading the Minutemen to a Division I-AA National Championship in his first season with the team in 1998, posting a school record 12 wins. He also won a pair of conference championships. He was named National Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association and Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette in 1998 and earned Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year honors in 2003. He was selected as the New England Coach of the Year by the New England Football Writers and the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston in both 1998 and 2003. He posted five winning seasons in only six years as head coach, with nine different players earning first team All-America honors.

Whipple also served as a head coach at his alma mater Brown from 1994-97, where he accumulated a 24-16 (.600) record without a losing season. He also was the head coach at New Haven from 1988-93 where he went an impressive 48-17 (.738) and led the team to back-to-back NCAA Division II playoff appearances in 1992 and 1993. His 1992 team finished 12-1 and ranked No. 5 nationally, while his 1993 squad ranked as high as No. 2 nationally.

At every stop in college, the trademark of a Whipple-coached team was a high-powered offense. His UMass teams rewrote the record books, setting more than 40 team records. In 1998, his national championship team posted school records in points scored (524), touchdowns (73), total yards (7,074), passing yards (4,050), completions (306) and first downs (354). While at Brown, his 1997 squad set Ivy League and school records for total offense (474.3 yards per game), which included a single-game record of 629 yards against Yale. His 1995 team set several single-season records, including most points (282), total offense (4,165 yards), passing offense (2,502 yards) and first downs (227). At New Haven, his 1992 squad led all NCAA divisions in scoring offense (50.5 points per game) and total offense (587.7 yards per game). His 1993 New Haven team was named Sports Illustrated's "Best Offense in College Football", averaging 52.5 points and 557.6 yards of total offense per game.

After serving as the head coach at New Haven from 88-93, Whipple spent four seasons as the head coach at his alma-mater. In the two years prior to Whipple's arrival at Brown, the offense averaged 173 points per season. That number increased to 256 points per season under Whipple's direction. The tremendous increase in the team's offensive successful coupled with a solid 24-16 record there gave Whipple the same job offer at UMass.

In 1997, the year before Whipple became head coach at UMass, the team scored just 149 points. In his first year there, they scored 524, an incredible 375-point (over 20 per game) increase. He was honored as the Division 1AA National Coach of the Year following that National Championship season. In Whipple's six seasons there, UMass averaged 354 points per season -- a 205-point increase over the total in the year before he arrived and a 75 points higher than the team scored the year after he left.

Bill Cowher and the Pittsburgh Steelers hired Whipple away from the college ranks to become his quarterbacks coach from 2004-2007. In those three seasons, Whipple helped develop Ben Roethlisberger. In those three seasons, including a Super Bowl title in 2005, Whipple's quarterbacks had an average passer rating of 87.6 -- one of the better ratings in the league for a quarterback. When Cowher left, so did Whipple.

After sitting out the 2007 season from coaching, he was hired by Philadelphia's Andy Reid in 2008 as an offensive assistant.

Why he should be a strong candidate: Whipple's gotten results everywhere he's been. He won a national championship in college. He won a Super Bowl in the NFL. He's been around two great players and coaches in his recent NFL years. His offensive production numbers when at UMass were outstanding. His quarterbacks have produced. His running backs have produced. He runs a fast tempo-style offense that would generate a lot of opportunity for Miami's young playmakers. He's a proven winner. He's proven he can get results. And while Whipple may have a future as an NFL offensive coordinator, he's spent the last two seasons out of football and working as an offensive assistant (not a position coach) so convincing him to become the offensive coordinator at Miami probably wouldn't be as difficult as it may seem at first.

then why even bring up the offensive production as a whole? Big Ben was rookie of the year and led his team to a Super Bowl.

Minus his average year at Miami this past year he does have an amazing track record as an OC. Period. Miami next year is going to have a great offense under him.

No. That was a knee jerk reaction by our fans like the obsession with Kragthorpe is. I, as well as other fans on this board, did a little research and found he has succeeded everywhere he has been and is talked about highly by every fanbase he has coached for.

LOL, I tried to put links to Whipple threads in every Kragthorpe thread to get people off the subject... What a horrible prospect. Crowton v2.

Browsing around on the "unofficial" Miami Hurricane Football forums, I found this thread about a rumor of Whipple going to UVA. Of course, he didn't, but what is relevant are some of the discussions about Whipple, pro and con. Interesting what some of the fans have to say. You might need to scroll down to get pass the UVA stuff, but the comments are there and relevant to the discussion here on our boards about Whipple.

In that link the comments were more positive than negative. Most believe he has the Cane's offense better than it has been in years and some even are saying he would be a better head coach than Shannon. Of course there are others that say he had "head scratching moments" this past season, but the Ole Ball Coach in his prime at UF even had those...

This guy IMO is one of the better OC's in the country and we have the bank account to get him here.

Where are you?

And yes I was serious when I said explosive. His three OC jobs before Miami, his offenses set tons of records.
