malzahn was a high school football coach five years ago that leveraged a position on the arkansas staff with the signing of mitch mustain .. sure, he has "fathered" the wildcat and the spread .. but he had a freak of nature at QB this year ... i would love to see what he would do with a mere mortal QB before i handed this guy a head coaching job at the D1 level ..
I'm trying to figure out why people make these type of comments.
Gus Malzahn…Show me something mister!
2006 Tulsa ranked #24 in total offense – OC: Current Nicholls St. Head Coach, Charlie Stubbs
2007 Tulsa ranked #1 in total offense – OC: Gus Malzahn; Paul Smith at QB
2008 Tulsa ranked #1 in total offense – OC: Gus Malzahn; David Johnson at QB
2008 Auburn ranked #104 in total offense – OC: Tony Franklin/Steve Ensminger; Chris Todd at QB
2009 Auburn ranked #16 in total offense – OC: Gus Malzahn; Chris Todd at QB
2010 Auburn ranked #7 in total offense – OC: Gus Malzahn; Cam Newton at QB
I’m not saying that he will be successful as college Head Coach. No one can ever be totally certain. There have been surprise successes and failures with hires.
But for those that argue that Malzahn is only a good coach because he has Cam Newton this year are simply wrong.
As for the people that have described him as unethical for taking the job at Arky as way for Arky to get the Springdale trio…He has definitely solidified himself as one of the better OC’s in the nation. You can’t seriously say that he isn’t qualified for the job as college OC, can you?
He won at a small school in Ark at high level. Then he won at big school at an extremely high level. If he had the dream to be a coach at the college level and was able to parlay his success with the delivery of the top 3 prospects in his home state to the home-state university, what’s wrong with that?

These 2 are all you really need to know that he is legit.
