And with Mack staying in as an assistant to the AD or the President or whoever, Nick is out.

guess we'll see

but mack staying there to undermine saban certainly isn't appealing IMO

but things can change awfully quick

Mack staying as assistant to the pres gives him money and the opportunity to stay in speaking engagements, etc. other than that it gives him no power. BoR made it clear to powers they wanted mack out, he wouldn't frick it up. and if they want someone who has a problem with mack being involved (which 95% of them would), he won't be involved

I'm gonna sit back and enjoy the next 48 hours in Texas' search. I won't do any more speculating until then. Too much behind the scenes action to know what is really going on. Even when things are "official", the public still doesn't have the full story.

I said from the beginning that mack would probably be kept on as a figurehead and for his 16 years of high school connections

Dude, drop the hostility. I doubt LSU fans really care about Alabama, it's the Saban part we are speculating on

I would drop the hostility, but I have none. I'm participating on a message board, dude

Okay? This is our first year dealing with it.
Really you've been "lucky". He's done with the NFL (and/or vice versa), and nobody big enough to seriously threaten your keeping him has come along... until now. Penn St? "Yeah, right".

Now, Texas, on the other hand- you might blow it off and say "sure, maybe for double what he makes"... but those crazy frickers could pay that. Even if Sexton and Saban try to play them to just get more money out of Bama, that's playing with fire. Someone might frick up and name a ridiculous price, only to get it met. You think if he has 5-7 years left, and Texas gives him a cool 100 mil, he won't say "uhh... oh shite, give me a pen"?

Y'all realize that any crazy high salary has to be approved by the Texas BOR before they get the go ahead, right? The administration has already been under fire for paying Mack Brown almost $6 million a year...I don't think they can go as high as some of y'all think without the BOR putting the kibosh on it.

That would basically double his new contract. If they offered him that, I would be mad if he didn't take it.

But they aren't going to give him 100 million for 5-7 years.

How high can they go? Serious question. Alabama just went on record with over 7; I've got to think that would be willing to go higher. A lot higher, depending on the guy. Who can you name that can justify higher than Saban (again, serious question)? And don't throw random NFL guys out there, Saban's got the college system down to an art now. To me, from a college viewpoint, he's worth more than Sean Payton or Bill Belechik, because we don't have a clue whether they can handle the recruiting, boosters etc. Pete Carroll, MAYBE... but he's tainted with Bush and he's making a Super Bowl run.

That's MLB money, sure. Some day, someone will do it. It's just a matter of how bad you want it, and if you can pay.

I'm really more interested at this point in watching how ridiculous Texas makes this, than who they get. It's likely either gonna be an obscene amount of money for Saban, or a horrific letdown. Either way, they're screwed!

Only when dealing with ignorance. For example, I'm angry right at this very moment.

No clue. But I do know they got major pushback from the academic side for how much they were paying Mack a few years ago. Things are different now that Saban is making $7 million, but they've got a ceiling just like everyone.

I think we should pause and be thankful that we have a message board to come to where so many of its native fans, and others, sit in on these board meetings and have all sorts of inside sources they still trust, ignoring the fact that they've been wrong on nearly every count up to this point.

So thankful.
