Has Texas hired Saban yet?

For about 5 minutes then reconsidered and offered Joe Paterno the job.

Give him a break. Can you name the last great white receiver?

If its not Saban it will be a dissappoint

I agree that'll be the initial reaction, but if they get a guy like Shaw, Briles, Smart, Strong, Franklin, etc., I think the fan base will get behind it.

Holy shite dude. He played for Texas - few years back. He was on the 2009 team we destroyed in the national championship game.

Holy shite dude... Like I give a frick. Like I said, I couldn't give a frick less about knowing every player from every year. My life doesn't revolve around living vicariously through 17-22yr old kids.

Y'all would be pleased with Smart?

No flame. Serious question. I'm biased but all our rivals fans plus LSU fans love the idea of Bama hiring Smart because they think he's gonna flop.

It's Friday, and we're continuing to monitor developments on the Mack Brown front.

What we know:

Texas' annual football banquet is tonight, at the Erwin Center. Normally, it's a night to remember the high points of the season, dole out several team awards, honor the departing seniors and woo the incoming recruits who are in attendance.

This is not a normal banquet.

Rumors continue to swirl around Brown's job status.

Updates:

A source close to Brown told us Thursday night that Mack planned to start his day in Houston, recruiting. He's been blazing recruiting trails this week --- in Miami on Tuesday, trying to flip Miami Central running back Dalvin Cook from Florida to Texas; then in Tampa on Wednesday, assuring Tampa Plant linebacker Andrew Beck (already a Longhorns commitment) that Texas still wants him and making sure that he still wants Texas; and then was in Beaumont on Thursday.

Yesterday's planned meeting between Brown, UT President Bill Powers and new men's athletic director Steve Patterson didn't happen. Powers' critical meeting with regents to discuss his own future went longer than expected, and the Brown meeting was pushed back.

A high-level source close to the situation has just told us that the Brown/Patterson/Powers meeting is now expected to happen late this afternoon.

The football banquet is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Don't know what's on the menu, besides intrigue.

And now, we're getting an odd tweet from Mack's Twitter account.

There hasn't been a lot of activity on the account --- about one a day. On Wednesday, Mack tweeted out a congratulations to Jackson Jeffcoat for winning the Hendricks Award as the nation's top defensive end.

On Thursday, Mack tweeted more congrats to Jeffcoat and Anthony Fera for being named Walter Camp All-Americans.

And then, just a few minutes ago, there was a tweet quoting Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Don't waste your life in doubts and fears; spend yourself on the work before you assured that the right performance of this hour's duties will be the best prep for the hours or ages that follow it."

Interpret as you will.
