No way Jones would hire Les at this point. I think he's at the point where he has to get a proven NFL coach that will command respect. It will be someone with the opposite demeanor of PHillips who doesn't even look like he's awake during the games half the time. I think he'll either promote Garrett or go get a defensive minded proven coach.

Hell, I would take Marty Shottenheimer at this point.

This thread is funny.
Yes, it's funny because of the OP's ridiculous premise that the Cowboys would hire Les Miles as a head coach.

Let's see.... Spurrier, Carroll, Saban. I see no NFL championship coaching here. Yet they make pretty good college coaches. He has fire and a decent pedigree.

Yes, but that still doesn't answer the question. WHY Del Rio, specifically? A lot of coaches have "fire" and a "decent pedigree."

As an example, I can say, "Bill Cowher," and no one would question it, because he was a consistent winner season after season, and has a Super Bowl ring. You can't even say Del Rio is a consistent winner. And no, I don't think Bill Cowher will ever coach at a college program.

If I remember correctly, Del Rio has family ties to Louisiana and LSU. Something like his wife is from Louisiana and his daughter went to LSU? Not real sure on those points but I think it's something like that.

Jack Del Rio has been an above average coach in the NFL - one of the longest tenured in the absolute worst NFL city with the fewest resources and attractiveness to free agents. Want to compare Saban, Spurrier, and Pete Carrol's NFL records? We don't need a savior with a soon to be 10-3 team, but he is a guy to can take control of the program and win a couple of BCS's.
