If that defense doesn't improve it's going to get ugly for sure. Doesn't matter if you score 40+

LSU will have either Coach O or Jimbo running things next year. It's as simple as that.

What's your point? Miles had great recruiting classes, too.

His first real recruiting class are sophomores right now. Sophomores arent supposed to go out on the field and be world beaters.

Nothing in this convo involves Les Miles.

Wtf are you talking about? The post was saying how it's a bad time to fire him because he's had good recruiting classes. Thanks for proving my point

Right. My point was just that UT and LSU will get the same treatment over their decisions. People like narratives and the "Do X University fans have delusional expectations?" Narrative gets a lot of clicks.

Yeahhhh.... except that Les was LSU's winnigest coach and he went 9-3 last year. Charlie has posted 2 losing seasons at Texas and is looking bad again this year. That's apples and oranges. One guy is a HOF coach whose last season was a winning record, who got fired for a razor's edge loss, the other is a doofus with a losing all-time record at the school, who can't even coach the coin flip correctly, who is losing bigly to bad teams.

Meaning his recruits arent even juniors yet. He doesnt have 1 senior on his team that he got. The guy entered a shite show and you arent even giving him the time to fix anything.

Its a bad time because he hasnt even had the chance to prove himself with his players. This isnt that hard to follow

Sorry bro but it's his 3rd year with no sign of improvement. If Herman weren't around, then yeah, Strong might've been given a 4th year. But there's no way Texas is gonna just let LSU swoop in and steal him away. Not happening.

Highly doubtful.

Texas recruits itself. Who's to say the next guy won't be a better recruiter? I think that's actually likely to be the case.

For example, Charlie gave an incoherent speech at the Texas HS Coaches Clinic that was so bad he was being made fun of in the press.

"I think everyone was shocked. It was that bad."

"He obviously didn't want to be here. If he did, he sure as [heck] didn't show it."

"It made me miss Mack."

I wouldn't worry about recruiting classes if I were them. I think Charlie represents the WORST they can do in terms of recruiting and it's still pretty good.

This situation is far from simple, you dunce.

I agree 100%... I think the LSU fans are just doing everything they can to convince themselves (and others) that Texas releasing Strong would be a bad idea

Their pissing and moaning (and baseless belittling) won't make one whit of difference.

Even aggy appears to have accepted that Herman's coming to Austin.

Frankly, the losses aren't the issue so much with Strong as HOW the losing is occurring. If you could chalk most of them up to talent deficit/young talent, I'd be fine with that. But there are so many issues independent of those (which are there as well). At the end of the day, when I ask myself if I see Strong ever winning a NC (hell, just getting to playoffs) at Texas, the answer is no. More people are coming to that realization as well

This. It's losing through ineptitude and stupidity that's the issue. Being terrible at special teams - which Mack didn't leave as a problem, having zero defense - not even being able to tackle, making dumb game management & clock management decisions, repeatedly, hosting a revolving door of bad assistant coaches, generally just looking lost and ill-prepared, showing no upward trajectory or improvement in any facet game-over-game (will look better in one aspect in a certain game, only to fall flat again the next outing). There's no ground on which to stand from whence a defense of Charlie can be mounted - if he was at least fielding a good defense he could rally support around that and say "we'll build a team around this", but he isn't. There's only recruiting, which any coach at UT can do by leveraging the school, which recruits itself.

Pretty much. I hate it - I mean really, really hate it - but it's reality. And I think he'll do very well there.

My thoughts exactly. Throw $6-7M at him if he signs right now, and let him coach out the season at Houston.

IF thats truly who we want, we need to jump out in front of this.

That's not how employment contracts work. Herman would have to quit his job and break contract before he could sign a deal with anyone else. It is very unlikely that Herman would do this in the middle of a national championship run.

If Houston loses to Louisville, then things might start moving quickly. Until then, Herman is not having job discussions with other universities.
