Looks like Mawae is a top candidate to be the OL coach at Arizona State

I’m not advocating LSU hire him, but there’s been about 10 threads about him so I’m bringing this update.

He’s been an OL analyst at ASU for three years.

Their offensive line coach Dave Christensen just retired, and Mawae had been recruiting and coaching for him most of this season as he was out with a hip replacement.

Seems like a natural transition and good opportunity.

It’s simple as that.

Kevin is the truest of Tigers......LSU calls, he comes home (in the job sense).

This should have been done last time we hired an OL coach. Kids would be begging O for a spot to be coached by a Hall of Famer.

That may depend on his daughter. She’s still at ASU

I don’t believe she is swimming for ASU anymore. I think she might be at Hawaii now.

Great move for Mawae. He can prove his coaching abilities and learn from his friend and mentor, Herm.

But can he coach? Not all hall of fame players can. Every time Mawae’s name is mentioned his actual coaching is never mentioned. I get it people hate Cregg and want him fired. That is fine but why do we have to limit ourselves to this one guy? Why not go get the best coach out there. LSU has the bodies going into 2021 for o line they need a coach to develop them.

Let him stay there and prove he can recruit and develop a P5 O Line first.

Ahhh, logic on the board for a change.

This is equivalent to Chris Peterson's sick kid. Peterson's kid is like 20 now and everyone thinks he's sticking around Seattle for medical treatments.

Mawae's daughter hasn't been at ASU for over a year.

And keep the crap we have? You let him do that and he will be right back in the NFL. Just like the best OL coach in the NFL Mike Munchak. Kevin will be a great coach and do great things and we will be standing at the alter!

The two are not tied together. I’m not in favor of keeping Cregg, but there is absolutely no reason to hire Mawae today. None. If we call later, he will come.

If we were to replace Cregg this off-season, it needs to be with a proven O Line coach with a track record of both development and recruiting at the P5 level. Not an analyst who is about to get his first on-field gig.

Instead - LSU has huge depth void at OL and a coach that has not produced in either recruiting or development. That coach should have been already fired.

Maybe he wants to stay put. Arizona, Louisiana? Arizona might be a better place to live for him and his family.
