Very first sentence
quote:

I think we can safely rule out Saban–this would be a step down for him–and it’s also pretty unlikely Spurrier would be interested.

If only Rich Rodriguez had not ended up refusing the job...how different history would be. It just goes to show that blind luck is sometimes the best thing to have.

I thank God

For unanswered prayers

Just because he doesn't answer

Doesn't mean he don't care

perception and timing are powerful.

Lot's of has been coaches on that list. Mostly ones who chased money and eventually got chased off!

I was actually surprised to suddenly remember that Saban was far from Alabama's first choice. I hadn't thought about it for years. I knew in my gut when he took the job that he was going to be successful. It's too bad for us that he didn't take a chance on Drew Brees instead of Dante Culpepper. He probably would have won a couple of Super Bowls by now and still be in the NFL.

He was the first choice. Nobody thought he'd leave and he wasn't going to before the season ended so Alabama moved on to option 3 (Rich Rod, Spurrier was 2) then somehow that fell through and Alabama ended up with Saban.

All kinds of names came up after Saban and Spurrier.

Frank Beamer
Rich Rod
Schiano
Paul Johnson

If Saban said no they probably get stuck with Schiano or Johnson and the Trainwreck continues.

So why did they offer the job to Rich Rodriguez first? They thought they had a deal, then he said no.

Mal started to panic at the idea of waiting until January to hire a coach
