I took that answer as purely coach speak. We’ve seen multiple coaches in the past lie… aka saban and jimbo. This is no different.

Regular season is done, he’s not getting into the playoffs of the conference championship game. He literally has nothing to lose by accepting the job at this point.

This shite happens all the time to varying degrees. Tommy Tuberville left Ole Piss for Auburn a few days after saying they would carry him out of Oxford in a pine box. Bobby P did it a couple of times.
I don’t think this means Riley is coming, but it does happen regularly.
