It is true. He can develop offensive talent, but can he recruit and develop defensive talent? I think he just does not have the Jimmie and Joe’s at OU. His most critical hire is the DC.
FYI, the knock on Les was the same. Pelini the first 2 games played Lou Tepper defense until they powers that be said I do not think so. Do something closer to Saban’s defense.

Riley's success wholly hinges on his choice of DC and defensive recruitment.

Agreed 100%. The hire of DC will determine how good of a hire Riley is.

Yessir, we know he can handle the offensive side. However, to this point that hasn't won him a playoff game.

Isn’t this true of any hire. LSU needs a great DC hire after two years without Aranda.

DC and recruiting Def will be critical and he will need to focus on that.
His scoring on offense is not going to be like it was in the Big 12 so he needs defense. This is the one big concern that I have if it is Riley.
Will his ego be such that he believes he can score 45 points a game in the SEC?
