College football is too far advanced for an NFL guy to keep up? Makes sense.
charlie weis. some NFL coordinators- even great ones- just dont translate to college head coaches

i dont mean schematically. im talking about recruiting, petting egos of the alums, hiring a staff. i dont even know why this argument is going on considering i have a better chance at being the head guy than nolan. dudes not on the list. doesnt deserve to be on the list

Tell Alleva we said hello, you talk with such authority you must be in on the meetings. Who is on the list since you know all?

I think NOLAN would be a great hire. And llama did Pete Carroll's NFL tenure inspire confidence in you?

I also think bryles would be a good hire along with van gorder. Dunno about cam, at one time he was the OC everybody wanted as hc, but his crazy time in Miami has soured many and I'm not sure he wants to be a hc still.

i didnt bring up malzahn. i was asked a direct question about him.

quote:

1. Mike Nolan - Defensive Coordinator (Miami Dolphins) - 51 years old

He coached LBs at LSU in the mid-80s and has connections to the south with him and his dad coaching with the Saints
NFL coordinator for life. no pedigree. failed terribly at his only head coaching opportunity
quote:

2. Cam Cameron - Offensive Coordinator (Baltimore Ravens) - 49 years old
failed terribly at his only head coaching opportunity
quote:

3. Kyle Shanahan - Offensive Coordinator (Washington Redskins) - 31 years old
i would love to see his offense without daddy or kubiak over seeing it. and if his last name wasnt shannahan, he'd never get a sniff

Mike Nolan would be a great hire. Has quite and extensive resume as a coach in the pros. A DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR for 6 different pro teams. Perfect for making LSU a top D with the talent in this state.

Nobody at the pro level stays for very long. You have a very short list of coaches who stay at one position on the same team for very long.

Cam Cameron

actually, he failed at both opportunities given (Indiana, Miami Dolphins)

and as for Nolan, he had the misfortune of the Alex Smith era. this is the inverse of Malzhan (who had the fortune of cam newton)

malzhan and nolan have proven the same ability as a HC in college (which is to say, none)

malzhan and nolan have good track records of being coordinators, but nolan has shown he's not as dependent on personnel and he's done it at a higher level

How do you know his personality? Does Jim tressel or saban have good personalities. Bottomline is he would be a good hire at this time. He might bomb but for this late in the game he would be a homerun and there is no way to argue differently.

mainly the head coaches he was under

he obviously didn't get along with mcdouchebag, and their D got worse when he left, i believe

saban and petrino were seen as sweet dolls during their NFL tenures. Damn, Petrino failed too. No way he can make it back in college, the game passed him by while he was away!!!

Brian Van Gorder

failed pretty badly at Georgia Southern. left after a yr I believe, and rubbed a lot of ppl the wrong way while there because he changed some traditions (and he lost).

does seem like a Pelini type, fiery guy though. has cranked out some good defenses too. I think he could be good on the recruiting trail and with players. I'd like to see him at a C-USA type school first though.

i cant handle this argument any more. we are all going to have to agree to disagree on the (college) head coaching ability of mike nolan. he will/would be a disaster here. enjoy yalls discussion

the problem is you have no evidence to back malzhan as a good HC candidate either
