He wanted to coach the team he built through their playoff run.
Of course he did. And who could blame him. But the 2 schools offering to pay him over $13 million a season for the next 7 years would both prefer he didn’t. Can’t blame them either. But he can’t be in both places at once. The longer he stays in Oxford, the more he’s sacrificing the ‘26 season for both schools.
Not an envious decision to have to make, but I think, at this point, he just needs to come to Baton Rouge. He would be miserable from now to the playoffs, and it would set the ‘26 LSU team back.
Plus, I think Ole Miss is actually much more likely to go on a run and win the NC WITHOUT him than they are with him. He doesn’t call the plays, not all of them anyway, I’m sure he overrides Weis occasionally. He doesn’t frick with the defense. And he really doesn’t seem like much of a “rah rah” motivator coach. A lot of what he does for his teams, his value, is already in place. Except for game planning, but I’m sure Weiss has learned enough to be competent.
I don’t think this team is capable of winning 4 straight games against good teams, but if they were to come close to, it would be due to them taking all the adversity, all the slight, real or not, by their head coach, whatever. They could really rally around each other and be motivated in a way that Kiffin couldn’t get them. Maybe ever, but certainly not in this climate. He’s weighing them down instead of lifting them up at this point. Not on purpose, but it is what it is.

Gutting the staff was his threat to try to make that happen
I get it. But they called his bluff, so he’s got to acquiesce. I understand the HC leaving under these circumstances. If he leaves those kids without their position coaches and coordinators, that’s a whole new level of dick move. I’m not sure I’d want him if he pulled that. Not sure I’d want the coaches willing to do it, either.
That would be used against us in recruiting so bad. Nice try Lane. You had to use whatever leverage you had. It didn’t work. Let those coaches stay and coach out the season. The players would be hurt worse by the assistants leaving. They almost always are much, much closer to their position coaches than the HC.

Blame the ole miss AD for being completely disconnected from reality.
Nah. He’s doing what he thinks is in the best interest of the team, the program, and the university. Can’t fault him for that. I don’t fault anybody in all this—Ole Miss, LSU, or Lane. I think everybody is trying to make the best out of a shitty situation caused by the new calendar. If Lane starts picking off staff and bringing them to Baton Rouge and not letting them stay to coach the players though the playoffs, he’ll be the 1st person I blame since all this chaos began.

Ole Miss Admins could not have it any other way and save face. There was no way they were going to allow a guy to coach their team when he is officially the coach of one of their main rivals. Lane wanted his cake and eat it too. They are not about to look like bitches and chumps.
Lane started the chaos and Ole Miss had no other choice but to oblige the chaos . It would be one thing if Kiffin was going to Penn State. LSU was another matter entirely.

This is like a commando raid to free Kiff. Planes circling, the enemy has his home surrounded, troops poised to grab him and family and fly them to safety.

Then it only ends one way. Someone must “let off some steam.”

The media and fans created the chaos.

So Kiffin wanted to rob the players if a chance at a natty because he couldn’t coach them because he wants to leave….
That’s basically it.
