I expect this to cause a lot more college coaches to take the leap.

Not only that, but the 12-team playoff makes it more of a grind. The 2 teams that make it to the CFP title game will play 16 or even 17 games. Nuts.

But, only a few college HCs will make the leap to NFL HC because the impression in the NFL is that it is very rare that a college HC can also win in the NFL. Harbaugh is the exception.

I don't think he'll actually do it, but here's a counterpoint:

If Smart takes the Falcons job, and turns them around like Harbaugh did the 49ers, he becomes the single-greatest sports legend in Georgia history- surpassing Bobby Cox.

Dunno. The Falcons are currently in better shape than those 9ers teams were. Draft a QB, and you can win that division with a quickness.

The nil and portal are detrimental. They essentially have to re recruit the entire roster every year and new recruits at the same time. At least in the nfl you have contracts. College football is out of control right now and I could absolutely see him taking a stab at the nfl and give college football a chance to course correct so to speak.
solid take

also, in all the comparisons to Saban in 2004, everyone seems to be overlooking the more obvious analogy:

now is the perfect time for Kirb to test the NFL waters - he’ll make a shitton of money whether he’s successful or not, and if its the latter he won’t have any trouble landing a top P5 gig

that said, i doubt he leaves - unless the UGa fanbase is as spoiled as UF was in 2001 and he is as sick of hearing their bitching as SOS was

Win win for LSU.

Either Brian Kelly figures it out over the next 2-3 years or LSU hires Kirby Smart from the Falcons.

So he has a great record when he has a talent advantage, like the guy you quoted said?

He’s 7-2 or something against top 5 teams not named Alabama. I’d so those have similar talent levels
