Arizona football has fired head coach Kevin Sumlin, the team announced on Saturday. Sumlin entered the year on the hot seat after a 4-8 season in 2019. Things didn’t improve much this year as Arizona enters the final week of the 2020 season with an 0-5 record. The final straw was last night's 70-7 loss at home against Arizona State.

"When we hired Kevin three years ago, we had high hopes for our football program," Arizona AD Dave Heeke wrote in a statement from the school. " Unfortunately, we simply have not seen the results and upward trajectory that we needed to, and I believe now is the time for a change in leadership. I thank Kevin for his service to the University of Arizona and I wish him the very best in the future.

I never would’ve believed a pulled from TV Herm would have more success at the college level than Sumlin. I wonder how much hitting the sauce played into this.

Based on other transitive property scores, that 70-7 is nonsensical. Wtf happened

Sumlin was a bad hire. I was firmly against hiring him at Oregon when his name was floated.

Arizona should go after Brennan at San Jose St.

I like Craig Bohl but that is probably not a good fit.

Based on their common opponent USC, you thought the Arizona schools were somewhat comparable.

ASU-USC 1 point game
Arizona-USC 4 point game

ASU-Arizona 63 point game.

Twice, he went for it on 4th down on his side of the field in the first quarter. I'm not sure I've ever seen such stupidity in coaching and I'm old. There was absolutely no reason to do it. And at a certain point, if your running back can't hold on to the ball, you bench him. That 70-7 game was painful to watch.

So, who do they go after? Sumlin was a pretty splashy hire to some. Do they try to go that route again, poach another HC, or an up and coming coordinator?

*sigh*

I actually think this is an excellent spot for a Willie Fritz - not splashy but could stabilize a situation that is currently toxic waste.
