So they're trying to justify firing a guy who went 7-5 and hiring a guy who went 6-6 at best?

I hope they give both him and Chavis an extension with a huge buyout.

Are these details correct on Sumlins buyout?

quote:

$10.4 million: What Texas A&M owes Kevin Sumlin if the school fires him after tonight (Down 20-7 at half to LSU) They must pay him in 60 days & it's his to keep regardless of the next job he takes.

That's one of the reasons Buzbee was so pissed. He fought against it and was told by Rick Perry to shut up and color if he wanted to keep his seat.

On the bright side, the contracts of ALL of the assistants expire at the end of the season.

That makes it even more sensible for Texas A&M to retain Sumlin through next season. As I understand it, his buyout would go down significantly if the Aggies were to do so.

And I'm confident Aggie fans would be pleased with the result a newly invigorated Sumlin regime would display.

The mere fact a fellow LSU made this thread should bring out red flags.

You are to damn dumb tho.

I admire the fact that you stayed with your thread, moderated, and owned it.

This year, all the good coaches are already taken, or staying put. If they fire Sumlin they will end up with a lesser quality coach.

His biggest problem is that he has recruited at too high a level. There is only so much playing time which has caused some high caliber talent to transfer, leaving the cupboards bare when injuries occur.

Being too good at recruiting is correctable and not really a reason to fire him. I don't think a massive extension and buyout is in order but think about a 2 year extension and another $3-4 million in buyout would show good faith on the university's part.

He has shown that he wants to be there. He has proven to be proficient. The ball is in their court.
