Alleva probably indicated, make certain coaching changes, new contract on the horizon.

Do not make certain coaching changes, no new contract on the horizon.

Doubtful, but if so, Alleva is my hero.

I like the idea.

It will be a new 5 year deal.

The money will be specific.

Terms specific.

Etc.

No one's saying he's going to get more money.

And even if he does, he's 61-17.

Hell, it may even mean he's going to take a pay cut so that he can get more money for assistants (ala Sean Payton and Greg Williams). What if that's the case? It's certainly plausible.

I could see Les doing this, which makes him even more likable!

Let's wait and see if anything comes out..this could be a PR stunt from Alleva..

I love how people are complaining about finishing third in the SEC West this year. It's just the toughest division in the toughest conference in all of college football.

1. Auburn - unbeaten, top Heisman candidate, national championship contender
2. Arkansas - rock solid top 10 team
3. Us
4. Alabama - defending national champs, with last year's Heisman winner, top 20 team
5. Mississippi State - also in top 25
6. Ole Piss - deservedly where they belong

That's five teams in the top 25 in our division alone. We finished third, with our only losses at Auburn and at Arkansas.

This without a QB or an offensive coordinator worth a crap.

Miles is what, 61-17, four 10-win seasons, three top five finishes, an SEC title, a national title, and consistent top 5-10 recruiting classes. He pretty much runs even versus Saban and Meyer, who have won four national titles between them. Most successful stretch in LSU football history. Been ranked in the top 15 for a vast majority of his tenure. Runs a clean program. Had the stones to can Perriloux even though it meant the QB problems we have experienced since (wonder what his record would've been had RP not been such an off-field POS). 4-1 in bowls. Longest non-bowl non-conference winning streak in the country (and we could include the bowls if we're not playing Penn State in slop, where we lost on a late FG). Has a lot of players in the NFL. Plus he's entertaining as hell (Have a great day, Eating Grass and Taking Names, etc.) Yeah, let's fire the guy.

I'm all for the contract extension - especially given the inevitable overtures from Michigan once/if RichRod is fired. Thanks for the great news belowpar.

Apparently beating UF and BAma did wonders.

the LSU fan base has been won back over to Les..

Winning fixes everthing doesn't it...

Old Lou once said "Fan's opinion of the head coach can change every 6 days"

so true!

No reason to believe he's willing to do this. No evidence to say this is plausible whatsoever.

Giving him an extra does = more money. He has 3-4 years right now, so if LSU gives him 1-2 more years, that would be stupid.

He's not going to take a paycut. That means that he is gettin $15 Million (likely) over the next 4 years, PERIOD. Any other change is only going to ADD money to it.

I do NOT believe this year has earned him an extension, but has earned him some breathing room easily. It would be utterly stupid to up extend his contract now unless he proves we can put out a non-pathetic offense up next year (Top 50). PERIOD.

Yeah, but Miles will ultimately be judged by the W/L record. It was frustrating as hell to watch over the past three years but he hasn't gotten to the point of being fired.

I am a critic, but never have supported the "fire Miles" contingent. I am more afraid of the unknown than I am of Les Miles. There are no slam dunk replacements.

I believe he did this while at Okie State. I'll look to see if I can find info on it.

ETA: I don't think any new contract would be for this reason at LSU, however.

He will definitely be getting a raise, atleast on a per annual basis.

Y'all act like there are only two terms to a contract: base salary and years.

Truth be told there are tons of shite written into it. For example, if I were Miles I might take a small cut in base salary in exchange for a larger bounus for 10 win seasons or something.

Maybe they wrote some public speaking lessons into it

I think most detractors are in this camp. I know I am. I don't think Les should be fired, but I won't be upset if he leaves.

I just don't see LSU winning another championship under him. Many will claim that we did it in 2007 with a new OC, but they forget that we also had a top 11 offense in 2006. We didn't go from a top 90 offense. We only average about 25 yards more per game on offense. Increase our offense by 30 on average from this year and we are still in the 80's as far as rankings go.

I don't think it happens next year. I think we got 10-2/9-3 at best next season even with a new OC.

That said, calling for him to be fired like Maximus has been is ridiculous.

Mafia, I am still working on it, but someone commented on it regarding a Les/OSU article that was recently published. The commenter said:

quote:

When Les Miles signed his contract at OSU he took $300,000 of his $700,000 contract and had that money dispersed among his assistant coaches. Today, OSU ranks in the top 10 in the country for assistant coaches salaries. This is one of the biggest legacies that Miles left. The consistency of keeping coaches like Joe DeForest is priceless. Miles also brought in Gundy to be his OC. Eventually, Gundy's transition to head coach was inevitable -who else was REALLY in the conversation? Miles also began the tradition of the players singing the alma mater to the students after victories and I believe, although not certain, that he began the tradition of 'The Walk'. Oh yeah...he beat OU twice as well. He was not a permanent fit in Stillwater but his contributions cannot be overlooked.

Smart move by all parties involved if this were the case. IMO.

Please tell me you are joking? He's already too much as it is.

The only negative in Les' contracts for Les are 2 things:

1) It's only through 2014.

He can't get an automatic extension anymore as is, so for him to get a new contract only puts LSU in a longer term contract and he's not giving up that.

2) His buyout for UM is $1+ million.

LSU could win the national championship for three years in a row under Miles, and people like Maximus would still want him to be fired.
