There's some chatter around Big Blue Nation that Joker is on his way out if he doesn't beat UT ( ). He was pretty cryptic in most recent press conference and shortly after Larry Vaught (UK beat writer) posted this:

vaughtsviews Vaughts' Views
When Joker was asked about his status: "I have no clue" and went on to say he was focused on upcoming game
21 Nov

Add this to the UK Board of Trustees recently dissolving the UK Athletic Association so they can gain more control over hiring, contracts, and etc it looks like the writing is on the wall.

Thoughts? Seems Mike Leach is the primary target for UK fans.

Absolutely. You could make the argument he never should've used as more than a OC to begin with, but that's another rant for another day.

i think he gets another year...i mean isn't he only in his second year? i know UK was pretty bad this year but i would think they would at least give him 3 years.

Appropriate choice. Leach's time running the Air Raid for Mumme was a high point for the program, as it got Tim Couch drafted as 1st overall and I figure that UK will give the pirate a chance despite his ongoing suit against Tech and ESPN.

Leach would be the obvious choice imo but most UK fans i've heard from think he won't get the job bc of his connection with mumme.

How long has he been there? Doesn't seem like it's been long at all.

We've regressed so bad this season it's pretty ridiculous. I think most UK fans figured we'd be in that 6 win mark, at least bowl eligible, given our OOC schedule and the East being down. He couldn't even muster that and given the lack of progress from the talent we do have I don't think UK could afford another year like this one.

The window is just too small for us to try to climb the SEC ladder. He's been there 2 years as a HC, but being Head Coach in Waiting hasn't helped his cause either.

As an assistant, since 2003 (WR coach), and he was OC since 2004. The main reason Brooks wanted a HC in waiting was to make a smooth transition and not lose any of the momentum we had been gaining, since Joker had been around for so long. That obviously hasn't worked out at all, and that's why people are done with him. If he was an outside hire, it would be a little different.

Reports now are that the rumors are false. But what else are they supposed to say 4 days before the UT game. I'm holding out hope.

Y'all ought to give the Jokester another year. He's building something special, I'm tellin ya. I was in Lex and witnessed the beat down he put on us. That team is full of quality athletes and I truly believe they could be an 8-9 win team next year.

Stay away from Leach. Word is that we aren't taking a chance on him, but i'm still hoping.

From what I can tell, Mike Leach will be coaching a lot of teams next year.

We have better athletes and more talent than we've ever had. And that's just the problem. It's obviously a coaching issue.

Joker probably had the most bizarre post-practice interview today. He was asked straight up about whether he was going to resign and completely dodged the question. Some of the media guys are saying he seemed a little off key, even moreso than usual.

Barnhart is also dodging local media too.

Seems like an awful lot of smoke at this point.

Joker could go be the head coach at TAMU and it would be an upgrade.

never ever let your super successful head coach pick his successor. he will invariably pick someone who was a great assistant to him, and contributed largely to his success. But it is generally those qualities that made him such a great assistant that make him a poor head coach.

especially if the job is handed to him. If he's ambitious enough, he will develop those other qualities on his own.

He deserves one more year. Short of a scandal that embarasses the school or cheating, I think new coaches should generally get 3-4 years to fully implement their players and systems. Since Joker was already on staff, I would lean towards the three year window.

Besides, who is UK going to get that is better if Leach is not interested. You would be taking a chance on a completely unproved coach IMO.
