quote:I think you have hit the BINGO! And your assessment is perfect. We at LSU can remember similar Saban games in his five years in Tigerland. Partly why he went from being called "St. Nick" to "Nick Satan."
This is about saban deciding whether he wants the challenge of starting over at texas. And he hasn't made up his mind yet. When he makes up his mind, all this ends and he leaves or he stays.

He left miami for less money.
It wasn't a huge cut IIRC. $13.5 million over 3 years to $32 million over 8 plus incentives.

No, but point still stands. There are a dozen NFL coaches that make more than saban now and some up to $8M. Saban could get that from bama yesterday if he demanded it.
I still contend this is not a negotiating ploy but rather saban deciding what he wants to do with the final years of his career.
This is it for him. He either goes to Texas now or stays at bama until he is ready to retire. So, he is in a decision making process right now and he is not going to do anything while Mack is still the HC. He respects Mack and the coaching profession. Once Mack is gone (tomorrow), he will talk to Texas directly and probably make up his mind one way or the other pretty quickly.
At least that is my take.
FTR, I don't much care what he decides. I barely even check this board and am not following it that closely. It is just my take from the big picture facts of him having an extension and raise on the table for a week and counting and Texas pushing Mack out so quickly.

Why would Sexton agree to extensions for his other clients so early in the game ? Why not let Saban open a new market value for all first?
Sounds like there is a deal already in place somewhere. The question is, where?

Coaching turmoil is what makes Sexton's day. If half he coaches were fired every year he would be ecstatic. He will get money on new hires at bama and UT. bank on it

Seems kinda weird that you guys don't mind getting used by Saban. Aggies must be rubbing off on y'all.

Honestly, I could see him realistically making a move either way.
At this point I see him either going to texas to make an absolute ton. Or stay at Alabama and get the fattest raise of all time.
The amount of leverage saban has right now is unbelievable.

Rat in a train ditch (Sexton)
Caught on a limb (Bama fans)
You know better but I know him (Saban)
He's Gone
FWIW- I think Saban will be at Bama next year.

Not very likely. Saban could walk into the bama president's office tomorrow, rub his nuts on his face and tell him he wants $8 mil per year or he will go back to the NFL or Texas and he would get it before bama's president even wiped the nut sweat off his face.
It does not require what is happening now.
Do you remember a coach named Tommy Tuberville? Remind us all how many times he bent the Auburn administration over a desk just like this.
Over...and over. You'd think at least the Auburn idiots would know how Sexton works from all the experience.
Look on the bright side...he's Malzahn's agent too. They might not be done paying him this year either, new contract or not.

He left Miami because he was a failure. And he caused it since he passed on Brees. Just like Petrino leaving the dirty Birds--a failure. He's not Carroll, Johnson, or Switzer.

Nicky will be getting his second bump in pay this yr, the last being only back in March. To say it's not about the money to him is ridiculous, as it most certainly is to a large extent.I am not saying there is anything wrong with capitalism, but he is using the shite out of bama and UT. And will again next yr when a pro team comes calling. After 4 straight yrs of this with him at LSU, we do know how he works the system better than anyone.
