Jimbo Fisher?

Why is Jimbo Fisher regarded as such a big time coach? FSU has already named him there coach and everyone is saying he should go to WVU. What makes him so special?
I just don't see it. Back in 2002 on the way to Blacksburg for the Va tech game I got to spend sometime with him and his wife and it just doesn't seem to fit the head coaching mold.

But he develops quarterbacks!

Meh. Jamarcus was/is a freak. He would have been top 1st round talent regardless. In my opinion, he was under-utilized by Jimbo. Offense never opened up even though we always thought "this is the year!". A monkey could have done a better job running the offense.
Edited for misspelling

It's probably his successful and distinguished resume'. Also he's worked/played under a long list of great coaches - had a chance to learn a lot from many different styles/philosophies.

I was just in Tallahassee this week on a business trip and was talking with FSU Alumni and got the same feedback from them.

IMO, FSU took a step backwards in making him the heir to BB. But, someone on their side thinks that Fisher is the next great thing. He obviously recruits very well and is decent and developing quarterbacks (though I'd say very overrated).
I think his game day coaching is what is going to do him in, though. Especially his big game coaching.

I attribute it to two things - he has the good sense to go to a school with a great defense and he has the best agent in the business.
Relating to the "he develops quarterbacks" comment, I offer up the following. Jimbo took Weatherford who was a returning starter at QB and averaged 4 less points (22 vs. 26) a game in year one of Jimbo ball. Conversely, LSU sent Bowe, Russell and Davis to the pros in round one; replaced the offensive coordinator, offensive line coach and wide receiver coach; and had a first year starter at QB. How did LSU respond? By averaging 5 more points (38 vs. 33) a game.
The Jimbo effect is real...real bad for FSU and real good for LSU.

Also, don't underestimate the value of having a succesor on staff for when Bowden retires. Keeps recruits from getting jumpy.
