A source tells me Jim Harbaugh has been actively working to find a NFL job. That has been the #1 thing holding him up on him signing an extension at Michigan.

This isn’t exactly the most shocking news, but his desire right now is certainly to return to the NFL.

Would it shock me if Jim Harbaugh signed an extension at Michigan? Absolutely not. But I can tell you with 100% certainty, he’s been trying for NFL jobs.

This certainly adds a wrinkle to the Freeman situation. No matter what anyone things about his OSU ties, Fickell would be a prime candidate for that job and I can’t imagine he would turn it down. That would put Freeman in line the conversation as a possible head coach at Cincinnati.

If Harbaugh is out there job shopping, it could definitely affect our timeline to hire a DC, as well as Auburn’s and ND’s.

I think the boosters at Ohio State would chip in to help Michigan give him an offer he can't refuse.

What the hell is going on with this dude. I read something different every day. Didn't he sign an extension a day or two ago? Or was that proven not true.

I think it's obvious he wants to go back to the nfl. The question is does the nfl want him?

I don’t know if that’s literally true or just people raggin on his being a weirdo. Regardless, I think that weirdness has made him much less attractive as an NFL coach. Grown men are gonna think he’s a clown. I just don’t think that schtick plays in NFL today.

And I know he had great success in San Fran, but didn’t everybody hate him when he left? And didn’t he leave the team basically in shambles? Seems like his biggest perceived attribute before Michigan was developing QBs. Surely that perception has taken a hit. I may be wrong, but I don’t think he’s a very attractive NFL coach anymore and think his begging for a gig up there is not gonna work. Unless he’d humble himself to take an OC job. But what HC is gonna want to have deal with him in a subordinate role? I think Michigan is likely the best gig he’s gonna be able to get.

It played just fine less than 10 years ago

1) 10 years is a long time, and this schtick he’s rocking now ain’t even close to what he was 10 years ago. He’s made himself into a cartoon character.

2) Did it really play just fine in San Fran? Like I said, I know he was very successful there, but wasn’t he pushed out the door cause everybody hated working with him?

I actually like Harbaugh. I think the character he has created is good for college football, and I would love to see him challenge Ohio State every few years. But Michigan isn’t the same program it was 50 years ago—hell, 15 years ago. And they’re not getting closer to where they want to be by hiring new HCs every 5 years. I think Harbaugh is probably the best coach they can reasonably get.

He’s gonna need a great DC, one that can recruit his arse off and is capable of winning some big games by out-game planning and out-scheming more talented teams occasionally. And Michigan is gonna have to suck it up and pay that guy way more than they’re comfortable with. But the biggest thing Harbaugh and Michigan need is to hit on just 1 generational QB that makes them better than the sum of their parts. A Joe Burrow kinda guy that can put the team on his shoulders and will them to a victory Ohio State.

Better hope not or MI will offer Orgeron $20 Million a year for a full decade. Then LSU will really be in trouble

They had short term success in San Fran, but there was nearly a mutiny in that locker room before he was run out of town

He lost a power struggle with the GM in San Fran, some players loved him others didn’t. He did some thing to piss off the owner and that’s what got him canned.

I fixed it for you. Jim is always whining about losing out on players because they were bought and paid for by every other team in the country. Maybe Michigan needs to reevaluate their salary cap. Where are those Dodge Chargers built? Might have to work a deal out with Ford or General Motors.
