linebacker coach at auburn. Some guys on tigerbait are saying he will be our next linebacker coach. Nothing official of course and maybe just a rumor but that would be a HELL of a pick up if true. He is also auburns leading recruiter.

Those guy's must be smoking again.

Wasn't that what has really been Auburns downturn the last two years though. Who he's brought in hasn't really been that impressive.

Not saying he's not a good coach and that it wouldn't help land Bostic, but I don't know if recruiting is his strong point.

Sun, I wouldnt' mind having evans or freeman.
And, I don't think we have a shot a Bostic. Even with him here.

well, I know AU lost Cotton and at least one other stud recently who specifically bolted because Willis was not retained by AU.

I have to admit, I don't know much about him. He did bring in McNiel and Freeman two years ago and looks like they have given him a lot of recruiting responsibilities since.
I was just making the comment that I know AU is not happy with the recruiting efforts the past two years so I don't know if that's a selling point on Willis. It might be though, I really don't know.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Hmmmm...past 2 years.....How long has Saban been recruiting at Bama? Coincidence?

I think Willis comes in with "young blood" and he's been through it. Played Linebacker in College, Pros, and SemiPro. He'll have lot's of insight for the young guys to pick from. I think he would make a good recruiting teammate for Porter, Henson, and Coach O (if O is on the way).

AU's LBs have consistently looked much better than ours. For instance they can tackle

They've recruited some studs and have done a great job coaching the entire core up. They're always aggressive.

jesus, people still read tigerbait? why? to read the stuff you could have read on scout and TD the day before?
regardless, i love the idea of Willis. its no coincidence that hes alabama through and through. born there, played ball there, now coaching there and focused on mobile in recruiting. this would be yet another "frick you" to saban. you go after ours with a knife, we go after yours with a gun. thats the Miles way.

It may not be, but it wouldn't matter.
We have a much easier plateau to recruit from than Auburn and all he would have to do is point to his development of multiple guys...

We have other people that could handle the recruiting. Right now, I don't think that is a major problem. We need a guy that can install some fundemetals into our LBer corp. Josh Hensen or hopefully Coach O will be able to help recruit Lbers.

I was looking at AU boards a couple days ago and the AU faithful were very upset that this guy was not going to be retained.

I've worked with James Willis in the past and he's an oustanding guy. He's very passionate and absolutely loves the game of football. Would be an Awesome addition to the staff.

Are you a coach as well?
What other rumors are you hearing?
Posted on 12/17/08 at 10:27 pm to ApexTiger
No, not a coach. Didn't hear the rumor about James Willis until I logged on here tonight. Just saying that he is a great guy that is very passionate about the game.
And even though he has his ties to Auburn
I think he'd still be a great addition to the staff.
