It’s Fickell

It just makes too much sense when you think about it. Why is nobody talking about the undefeated head coach who almost has Cincinnati in the playoffs? He has been off everyone’s radar with this narrative that he wants to stay in the Midwest. What Big 10 job is he waiting for? All the good programs are locked up and will be for some time. The guy makes $3.4 million/yr at Cincinnati, you’re telling me $10+ million/yr can’t lure you to a program like LSU? I think Woodward has had this locked up for a while now and is just toying with everyone leaking information about other candidates so Fickell’s name continues not to come up.

Fickell should have been the first phone call.

Because that will be over in two weeks....

he turned down MSU because of their "campus culture" problems I highly doubt he comes here.
I mean, there’s a major difference from $4M to $10
Plus, that whole, LSU being LSU thing

Maybe Fickell was the first phone call and SW kept it quiet. But I still think if he’s the one there needs to be a high buyout so he doesn’t bolt for Ohio State.

Fickell's new agreement includes a $4 million buyout if he were to leave Cincinnati before Jan. 1, 2021. The buyout drops by $500,000 in each subsequent year of the deal. Cincinnati would owe Fickell $23.8 million if it terminates him without cause before Jan. 1, 2021, with the amount decreasing each of the next three years by $3.4 million.
A less than $4M buyout

The same could be said for Chris Petersen

Did you even read the article? Doesn't seem like it.

Why would you pay him 10 mil though? I don’t think LSU is going to go near that anyways.

The MSU issues were basically ongoing when the hire was made. The timing of the hire would’ve been absolutely disastrous, and he’d have had to clean up an enormous mess.It was such a bad situation that there was tons of chatter at the time that MSU might have a very difficult time finding someone to take the job.
LSU has had issues no doubt, but the only ongoing mess that the new hire will have to clean up is the actual coaching of football. It’s not comparable at all.
And beyond that, this is a better job that will pay a lot more than MSU was offering fickell at the time.

What’s he gonna do, go be the defensive coordinator? I do not understand why people treat Ohio state as if it could come open at any moment. Ryan Day is as locked in as any coach in the country outside of nick and Dabo.

Those concerns were part of the reason the Fickells turned down the Michigan State football job on Monday, multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told the Free Press.
Part of
The other part being it’s Michigan State. You’re No. 3 for every top Michigan prospect.
LSU is completely different.

I would be happy with Fickle. I still believe it’s Chris Petersen.

It's like no one is actually reading the article. He didn't go to MSU because of scandals and cover ups AND his family doesn't want to move.
Could he change his mind? Sure. But you guys keep saying money is why he will come here or because "lsu is LSU". Fickell really doesn't seem to care much about either of those things.

He said the biggest reason he decided to stay was his family. The Fickells have six children.
"The bottom line is, first and foremost, family. Obviously my family loves it here, I have a unique situation with the age of my kids," Fickell said. "... I had to make a selfish decision, but this selfish decision was what was right for my family, and that is to be here."

Have you been to East Lansing?

My first choice from day one, and everyone laughed at me. He'd be a great hire...

It does remind me of the Jay Johnson hire for baseball and Riley reminds me of Vitello
