Yeah, Joseph is DB coach with SF. I have to wonder why he would move to the college ranks to do the same job though

I don't know why he'd leave either, and Singletary seems to like him. But he did coach with coach Stud at Bowling Green.

Thanks for your scoop - you rock.

I'm excited about Chavis - what a huge upgrade over Malveto - and I hope Orgeron gets his head straight and comes aboard as well.

3 of his last 4 defenses were ranked something like 45th, 50th and 70th in the nation. thats the definition of mediocre. And spare me on the Tennessee doesn't have talent bull shite.

It's not in front of me, so I can't quote it chapter and verse. But you can't just look at the talent - you have to look at what kind of talent was actually on the field. My recollection is that one of the years you cite involved a very low number of returning starters, something like 3 or 4. Perhaps a Vol poster can back me on that. But young talent is just that - young. Just ask Charlie Strong about his 2007 crew at UF.

And I believe some significant injury issues played roles in those numbers as well. I'm almost positive that 1st rounder Justin Harrell only played 3 games the last year he was at TN. The Phil Steele guide, for what that's worth, has a blurb stating that TN had 12 players in walking boots after the 2007 South Carolina game. And if you look at the game-by-game numbers, the TN defensive numbers fall off a cliff after that game.

Again, this is strictly from memory. So any UT posters, or anyone with their 08 Steele guides handy, feel free to call me out. But long/short, there's a lot more that goes into the final defensive rankings than a) who's the DC and b) what talent is listed in the program.

not quite; definitely a BIG upgrade. We'll put a well coached good defense out there, it remains to be seen if he can put together a great one with our talent.

O and Joseph would make me a lot more optimistic.

O and Joseph would be great. Chavis is meh. You know we won't be terrible, you know we won't be great either. Fits with Miles' scheme of losing at least 2 games every year no matter how talented you are.

I love these kind of comments. People are excited about our recruiting class. It rivals the likes of u.s.c. and florida the last three seasons.

I was curious to what people would say if we lose a game or two like florida and u.s.c. have the past couple of years with this type of talent. Now i know. however, urban myer and pete carol are great even though they lose a couple of games with great talent.

doesn't count for them but counts for miles.

I agree withy what you're saying to an extent, but Carrol and Meyer have never lost 5 games in a season (with a chance at 6).
ETA: I'm obviously counting Carrol's time in the NFL.
