If he goes 8-0 he probably wins the SEC, which is what you are hiring a coach to do. I love Herman and believe he could make LSU great for a long time but you don't fire someone coming off of an SEC championship. The press would be merciless (and fairly) and you have to see what that interim coach can do if given the full time job given that he would have beaten Saban, Shaw, Bielema, Freeze, Sumlin and maybe Butch Jones in his last 12 games as a head coach. Seriously, if Bebe does that he is the next big thing. Yall saying that if he wins 8 games and he doesn't get the job are crazy.
You don't see it as a possibility that he could win out with the team that was a preseason top 5 pick, then decline in the coming years due to an inability to maintain it? Come on. Look beyond today and use your brain.

I totally see it as a possibility but you still can't not hire that coach. Furthermore, look at it as an AD, if you hire Bebe because he wins out no one (that matters) is going to be pissed at you and you probably keep your job if Bebe falters further down the road. Now, if you don't hire a coach that wins the SEC and your hire doesn't work out (who has to win the SEC pretty much immediately to not be judged a failure), you are done. In addition, I will say Bebe is probably a safe person to hire even if you think he might fail. He should be able to maintain recruiting, which shouldn't decimate the program for the next guy.

that's just not true.
All the O supporters need to just have a little patience. God forbid he lose this week, or 3 games in November.
If the man finishes out the year on a high note, then you're probably right. But what is so hard about just waiting?
(not directed at you in particular, OP-just saying)

Everything I am saying is predicated on him winning out. I am not really a Bebe supporter so much as someone that would be impressed if he wins out. Seriously, 14-2 is a pretty great record as a head coach and folks arguing against hiring him if he does that are crazy.

He wouldn't have accepted the interim position if Alleva hadn't told him it was his job to win or lose.
Of course he woudl have.
What does he have to lose?
He wants to be a HC somewhere, he isn't going to have a better opportunity to show he can do that than this.

That is right. Lose one and your out of the running...
