Lincoln is definitely better, but I'd be happy as a clam with Napier. He has that really rare extreme attention to detail, knows how to lead, and can recruit. He may not have the slightly crazy edge someone like Kiffin has that lets him do stuff other people just wouldn't even try to put him into true Xs and Os savant territory, but he's a strong offensive mind in his own right. Dabo Swinney basically saying he's the best young coach in the country when he hired him and Nick Saban tacitly endorsing that by making him one of the first members of the Nick Saban coaching rehab clinic is high praise. He's a much better coach than all the meltdowners seem to think. I'm not saying he should be the guy over Riley or Urban (to be clear LSU is not hiring Urban Meyer even if he was interested in the job), but the more I think about it the less I understand why you would hire James Franklin or Mel Tucker over him. I think all 3 would have at least moderate success and win at least one natty, but Napier has the biggest upside and their floors seem really similar.

Kiffin I really hate as a hire but at least I get why you would hire him over Napier. Maybe in 3 years if the next coach completely flames out and Kiffin proves he can vet a competent defensive coordinator.

Or maybe some people are ok with a Napier hire?
