and this al golden is a "great hire"? why do people keep saying this?
i get the whole "but temple was in shambles" argument, but golden stilled struggled mightily vs crap competition.
as was stated in the title - HE NEVER DEFEATED A MAC TEAM WITH A WINNING RECORD WHILE THERE - you are a coach in the MAC conference and you cant beat ONE winning team in four years? cmon man!

He was a good hire for Miami b/c he runs a clean program and doesn't recruit bad apples. But he not a sexy pick.

i see what you're saying
this season, he beat BCS bound UCONN and played Penn St. tough
last season they beat Navy
those are the only games of not that i saw
main thing that i see is how bad they were before he got there (3-31 previous three seasons)
he can make a bad program respectable, but no way to tell if he can make an already decent team BCS competitors

It amazes me how nobody really seemed to want this gig. I guess "The U" has lost quite a bit of it's luster.

it was a good cheap pick. He completely turned around Temple.

In 2009, 4 teams other than Temple finished with records over .500. They only played Ohio and lost. Temple did not play Bowling Green, Central Michigan or Northern Illinois.
In 2010, 5 teams other than Temple finished with records at or above .500. They lost to Miami (OH), Ohio, and Northern Illinois. Temple did not play Toledo and Western Michigan in 2010.

It is shocking. I'm not sure if Miami pays as much as some of the bigger programs, but seems like any number of coaches would line up to get that gig. Miami has easy recruiting and a relatively easy path to a NC. Wouldve been perfect for Leach but they were too nutless to hire him.

Miami doesnt pay nearly what top 15 programs pay, and their facilities are in desperate need of rehab

This is true. I believe the Marlins are getting a new stadium on the site of the old Orange Bowl, and I'm pretty sure that's where The U will play football in the future. But construction won't be done until 2012.
