State's facilities, particularly for football, are pretty good. They'd be top-tier in about any conference in the country.

Good post, State does have nice facilities in a relative sense.

As you point up it though, their stadium seats about 60,000. That is 12th in the SEC, ranking only above Vandy and Kentucky. The top four schools, including LSU, seat more than 100,000 fans. That’s a huge difference.

Their football revenue is just over 30 mil, LSU is over 80 mil, Alabama over 90 mil.

I am not saying State is a dump, it has nicer facilities than a lot of schools. But in the SEC, State is a second tier program financially. The new facilities at A&M are many times nicer, as they are at the other big money schools.

State is at a recruiting disadvantage to LSU, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, etc. They are competing with schools with three times the revenue. Their location is not a selling po8nt for a top coach either. I give them props for doing more with less than a lot of programs, but if Mullen leaves State will have a hard time replacing him. If there are openings at Florida, Tennessee, and Texas A&M, State can’t compete. I think Ole Miss would be preferred for a coach over State, but for the NCAA sanctions.

Mullen will not go to Florida. Strickland does not get along with him. Heard this on two national shows already. Florida needs a splash hire. They just fired a guy who won the East two years in a row. Not going for a lateral move. Chip Kelly or Scott Frost type hire for the wide open offense. Plenty of speed in Florida so its a good fit.

Sucks he's going to UF which we play every year. He'll have more talent and budget to work with. I think he's a good hire.
