Guess that's why we're paying Baker the big bucks as one of the best DCs in the country.

well, he fielded one of the best defenses in the country, so.....

To not get stops when it matters against against Vanderbilt, who is 6th-7th best team in the conference. And hold them to their third lowest scoring total of the season.

Glad we're really setting the standard.

Bro if you think Ole Miss has had a tough schedule just based off of what some subjective metric from ESPN spews out based off of the actual records of the teams, that completely invalidates any point you have tried to make

You know nothing if that is the case.

You do realize that the offense was horrible? There were constant 3 and outs. The D was tired in the 2nd half of games. They was alot of pressure on them to not let teams score because if they gave up 20, we were going to lose.

You mean that OU team that almost lost to us when we had 17 yards passing through 3 quarters because neither team has a competent offense? Yeah.

I’m sure they’ll make a run in the playoffs.

I agree, there were several crucial 3rd down and longs this past season…..and opponents receivers were wide azz open.

Arkansas had one of the best offenses in the country not just SEC and LSU kneecapped them.

Yards mean absolutely NOTHING in modern NCAA. It's scoring and other stats that matter. LSU's defense was good especially considering they fired their HC and had little reason to stay motivated. Not to mention this is the worst offense I've seen at LSU in decades.

Sure, we held Ole Miss to their lowest point total. So did fricking Washington State. Who sucks arse. What’s your point?? UGA got stops when it mattered and shut them down in the fourth. Maybe if Ole Miss had played teams in the top half of the conference it would be different.

The fact that Vanderbilt was scoring every possession and you said “doesn’t matter” lmfao.

They were going to score 38. Ole Miss could’ve easily scored 38 if not for the lucky fumble right before the goal line. Both teams would’ve punched it in at the end.

Kind of hard for the offense when you immediately give up two straight TDs to open the game on back to back drives against Vandy and A&M.

I don't think LSU played good in TAMU/Vandy/Ole Miss either but you have to also understand they had lots of injuries too alongside an inept offense. You're crazy if you think Baker isn't a good DC. Him and Lane would do some damage in the SEC.

Yeah man!!! We’ll be like you and suck Baker off for those dominating defensive performances against the vaunted offenses of Tech, Southeastern, Western Kentucky, Florida, SC, 91st-ranked Oklahoma and 2-10 Arkansas.

frick the 3-4 games a year that actually matter!

I leave out Arkansas because they have won 2 games all year and are winless in conference. I don't know if that would necessarily be the feather in Baker's cap when talking about opposing offenses they have stopped.

Arkansas only won 2 games because their defense was awful, not because their offense was bad. It absolutely was a credit to the defense to hold down a high scoring offense to escape with a one point win due to LSU’s anemic offense.

quote:

UGA is a very good team. Oklahoma is not a good team. They have a good defense but Mateer and their offense is going to hinder any chance they have in the playoffs

Again, the strength of Oklahoma’s offense (or lack thereof) has absolutely nothing to do with an evaluation of their defense. OM put up 34 points on their Top 10 defense and 35 on Georgia’s Top 15 defense. How OM’s defense fared against OU’s offense isn’t relevant to this discussion.

You act like it's some kind of flex to throw Arkansas in there. You do realize that team very easily could be a 10 win team? They barely lost almost every game due to how good their offense is. Their offense is among the best in the country and if they had any kind of pulse on defense they probably would be a 10+ win team.

You could say that about any team. We could be 11-1 with BK still as our coach, but we’re not. It’s because we are not a good team.

Arkansas is 2-10 because they are not a good team. Find ways to lose.

Peace out.

This is the coaching changes board, not the Rant. I'm not going to go back and forth about a guy who is leaving.... my biggest takeaway is that LSU can do just as good, maybe better on that side of the ball with another guy. He didn't do anything irreplaceable.
I'm comfortable that LSU will get somebody else good, if he leaves.

Here’s the problem with your take. Playing well defensively against Arkansas didn’t matter because they were 2-10, but then playing well defensively against 10-2 Alabama and 10-2 Oklahoma didn’t matter because their offenses weren’t strong. You have to pick a lane here. Either you judge the performance based on the overall strength of the opponent or you judge based on the strength of opponent’s offense.

I am hopeful that would be the case, but Kiffin doesn’t exactly have a strong track record of hiring strong DCs. Part of the allure of hiring Kiffin was that the defense was in good shape and LSU needed an HC to handle the offensive side. Now we have to worry if we’re back to a great offense with questionable defense. I’d much rather stick with a combo of Kiffin and Baker than the uncertainty of who Kiffin would bring in instead.

They were top 25 in total defense, but how much of that is due to the majority of the offenses that we played? You do realize that against Ole Miss, Vandy and A&M we gave up 480,399 and 426 total yards, respectively? Allowing them to convert third downs 54% of the time?

Kinda happens when your offense can’t stay on the field. They weren’t playing defense in a vacuum man.

Vs D1 Opponents

Vandy's offense averaged 38.9 PPG (#7). Against LSU, the offense scored 31

Ole Miss's offense averaged 36.2 PPG (#11). Against LSU, the offense scored 24

A&M's offense averaged 35.3 PPG (#13). Against LSU, the offense scored 42, 28 of that in the second half, when it looked for all the world like the team quit on BK.
