re: If your initial reaction to the Brian Kelly hire was to be upset...

My initial thought was how old is he? And that thought stems from the general question of are we getting a prime and motivated Kelly or a coasting into retirement Kelly.
If Kelly is here because of a hunger and drive to win a title, build a juggernaut and cement his legacy than I think it will be a good hire and I think he is capable of doing that.
If he is here to become extremely wealthy, make safe hires and work just hard enough to maintain LSU in that natural habitat of 10 wins and 2 losses a year it will be disappointing.
Overall I like the hire because I think Kelly as head coach brings a high floor to a program that has so many natural advantages.

It takes an incredibly talented, focused, determined, adaptable and motivated coach to win every where you go.
- the lay of the land is different at each stop
- recruiting advantages/ disadvantage are different
- how to be successful at each school is different
- the schedules / opponents are different
- your winning formula is different
So he’s had to learn all this and stay committed to his formula/ process and adapt over and over.
He was never on my radar really because he was winning at ND. And he’s 60. Didn’t figure he would realistically want to change jobs and take on a brand new challenge. I assumed he’d retire from ND in a few years.
But - he’s a home run. His record and resume say he’s an elite level coach and I expect him to win here…. Give him maybe 2 years and LSU will be back in the 10+ win club, back in contention and back to being ranked and in the mix again.
Let’s be honest here - we Damn near won a Natty in 2011 with Les Miles as head coach and Justin Jefferson / Jarrett Lee at QB. Realistically, it’s doable here.
Coach BK will do well here.

quote:I think initially my hatred for ND and general pinion of Kelly being a prick clouded my judgement.
was happy from the start but I’d say the board was 50-50 when the news came out and now it’s 98-2.
It took me about 2 minutes to realize it was a great hire and probably exactly what lsu needs
