I'm going to guess he means because it's a blitz heavy system kind of, sort of, like Nick Saban's defense.

I was thinking this thread was going some where about UF winning the BCS and the SEC winning three straight and 4 out the last 7 with LSU and UF with 2 each.
This alone makes me already anticipate next years home game with UF.

This is an insane argument. What defensive system would Florida not light up at this point? I think we could see UF light up Bama but that doesn't take anything away from Saban's system. Florida is just that good. And Tenuta would be a good hire for us.

Defensive success is about calling the right plays at the right time and creating mis-matches. It is less about base scheme and more about surprise. Good coaches have a feel for this unlike our guys to telegraphed our pressure so easily that Gary Danielson called them every time announcing the games.

x2. Because Saban's D was a colossal failure here right? And in Bama thus far?
One bad game to the best offense in college wouldn't change my mind a bit about the scheme. If they start letting people hang 35+ for the majority of the year, then worry.

it was before the spread got really popular in the SEC and there wasn't much spread option anywhere

Good point. I guess we'll find out tonight if that type of defense works on it.
So far the only thing that works on it is long drives by your offense to keep them from getting the ball (which Bama seems to like to do anyway)

Games aren't played in a vacuum.
Any system whose BASE defense is set up to stop the spread, is going to have problems against the non-spread teams.
You have to be able to adjust. If Bama stops Florida, it won't be because their defensive scheme matches up to the spread, it will be because Saban was able to make some very good adjustments.

This is why I like the DC from BC. Today's offense calls for a strong secondary followed by a strong pass rush. If those two are in order, you do not have to resort to as many blitzes.

If UF's D shuts down the O it could be a factor should a carving happen. I can't see a Bama D constantly on the field shutting down UF for an entire game.
