If that is your thinking-- shouldn't Aranda have to do same?

Yep. He's the star on staff. He's the reason O is even getting pushed for the head coaching job. If O lost Aranda, LSU would be in dire straits. So why can't we just cut out the middleman and hire Aranda?

If the conditional is that our top targets decline us, and the job is between O and Aranda, the job should go to Aranda. Neither of them should be the top choices though.

said this the week after Miles was fired. I'd MUCH prefer to take a chance on Aranda than bring in some second tier guy like Fedora. Plus I'd rather the head guy be a defensive guy. I think with the rules favoring the offense it's easier to pay a top OC than find truly elite defensive minds.
Also, I don't really see a giant difference in status between Herman and Aranda right now.

I'm beginning to come around to the idea. Hard for me to get over the no HC experience, but I prefer Aranda over O.
