I think it is better to get coaches on an upward trajectory as opposed to a downwards one. Watched a few clips of the guy we look to be getting and seems like an enthusiastic and pretty smart dude. I personally am willing to give him a chance lol .

So after the Pelini fiasco, who was also a former head coach who hadn't been a DC in years, you really was hoping Ed O would make the same mistake he made the last time again by hiring another head coach who hadn't been a DC for years? Wow!

Man...you must really want to get Ed O fired. Either that or you are a glutton for punishment.

As for as your better option comment goes, you're obviously very mentally deficient.

He literally just hired another coach who hasn't been a DC in years.

But he has been coaching defenses nonstop the entire time and also the entire time being a part of the formulation defensive game plans.

Whereas the other two had not been a part of that process for many years and in which time a freaking offensive revolution has also occurred.

Don't lose your day job genius.

You don't think Mason was involved in the defensive game plans at Vandy? Don't worry D, you did a good job Google searching DC candidates for O.

No, not on a day to day basis. As he was far too busy as the head coach to concentrate strictly on defense. As a head coach has far too many responsibilities to be strictly focused only on defenses. Which is why he hired defensive coordinators and defensive assistant coaches to handle that aspect of the job for him and like Bo Pelini did and virtually all head coaches all do as well.

Meanwhile, in the ensuing years since he was a DC, an offensive revolution has taken place. Hence, I hope Mason does better than Pelini did at figuring out how to stop it and coach against it.

Very apparently, you are a typical rant poster who doesn't have the first damn clue about what goes on and happens inside organizations. All you are doing is looking from the outside in and making wild speculations premised on your own very foolish ignorance's.

Moreover, everybody does research on who to hire next not just coaches. Hell, some coaches even hire search firms to do the searching for them.

Nonetheless, anyone hired is just a prospect like any other. As no one knows until they actually do the job whether or not they will be studs or duds, and if they turn out to be duds, it's not a reflection on the person that hired them because again, you never know until you hire them.

Same thing with football recruits, all they are until they commit are prospects. However, no one can say for sure whether or not they will be studs or duds. As that stuff is impossible to be known beforehand.

Hence, it's only obvious Ed O haters that foolishly claim Ed O must be fired based on the number of coaches he has hired and fired. Everyone in a position of hiring and firing hires and fires people all the time. However, it doesn't mean they are not good at their jobs. Indeed, that's the nature of all large organizations.

Those people don't care who Ed O hired or fired. All they care about is getting Ed O fired because they are utterly obsessed with hate. Such people are sick ignoramuses. Indeed, it didn't matter who Ed O hired, they would have trashed whoever the hell it was no matter what.

Mason being involved in those atrocious defenses would be another reason not to hire him.

Say what? Why don't we just re-hire Pelini if we do something as stupid as that.

What about the historic vandy defenses he coached as the defensive coordinator? You don’t wanna talk about that do you?
