I love Les but we shouldn't allow him to bargain us into a corner

If we lose Les and the media wants to paint the picture that we drove him away, it's bullshite but that's just how it will be and there isn't much we can do to counteract the hypocrisy of ESPN. However, despite how much I would like Les to stay, this is still a negotiation and LSU has to do what is in our best interests financially, even if the end result is the media acting as if we ran him out of town.

Nobody knows what Miles demanded and what we were/are willing to pay, but Miles leaving doesn't mean the admin botched this necessarily. Les can only leverage this university for so long.

I think its a situation where he expects them to say no.

Getting out by asking for terms that probably wont be agreed upon, this happens all the time in sports...

And it's a veiled attempt to act as if Les had no choice but to return to Michigan. I understand he's acting through his agent but frick.

I agree. There is no need for an eight win clause. He will not get fired for one eight win year. All he is trying to to do is set himself up for a huge payday if the university decides to part ways wih him

I agree but the Momma's calling aspect of this should have been enough for LES.

I think the job security thing was also to put Alleva in a bad spot.

Amen. There does come s point where its time to say goodbye. While I can understand the frustration over not being "loved" after an 8 win season, he makes slightly less than $4m annually, and presently has a 4 year term on his contract. The Mich buy-out is low, based on what other coached have in their deals (hell, RR has a $2.5m buy-out in his WVA deal). While I would prefer to see Miles stay, I'm starting to get tired of this soap opera.

The timing, the last three seasons, the budget cuts and PR problems associated with paying a head coach this much, etc. put LSU in a really unenviable position at the moment and it's unfortunate that we will likely, admin and fans, will bare the brunt of the blame.

He's already got that. Every time he wins 8 games his contract is extended by a year, and if LSU fires Miles they pay him, in full, the remainder of his contract. If he leaves Miles (or his new employer) pay LSU 1.25 million.

no, you are wrong. It still has to be approved by admins. It was not rolled over in 08 or 09 for your information.
