I hate having to break in a new coach....

but it sure is fun to watch all this stuff unfold. If we lose Miles, this coaching changes board is going to blow up. I'd rank watching a coaching change right up the with watching the NFL Draft or following LSU recruiting, it's fun as hell.
I'm on the edge of my seat when I think about the new faces that'll be on the sidelines in just the SEC alone next year. Potentially, we could have new coaches at Ole Miss, Arkansas, LSU, Auburn, and South Carolina next season. Anyone else like watching the coaching carousel unfold?

The thing about getting a new coach is you never know what's gonna happen when you do get one. It is such a crapshoot.

True, but it is exciting. I want Big Les to stay, but I'm not as much for stability as most. I really do enjoy all this talk of possible new hires. Makes me a little moist.

oh come on Rocket, you know the greatest coaches will be lining up outside Skip's office begging him for the opportunity to coach the greatest team for the greatest fans in the world!!!!

Don't you think in this day and age, that the coaching landscape has changed such that you should only expect to have a coach for about five years? People always talk of stability and how we need a coach to stay here for 20 years, but I think one of the worst things that can happen is being stuck with a mediocre coach like Paterno or Bobby Bowden who simply don't know when to leave.

Sure, it gives us something to talk about. But, I just feel comfortable with Les here now.
I was really comfortable with Saban here. I liked his unquestioned authority. And when he left, I thought it was going to be the end of LSU football.
It took me a loooooooooooong time to get over that and to get comfortable with Miles.
It'll take me a long time to get comfortable with a new coach, regardless of who he is. I have to know how he views everything...from recruiting, to discipline, to offense, defense, special teams...everything.

and having one leave for a dream job is a MUCH better scenario for hiring the next one compared to running one off (especially if that coach has a very strong record).

i feel better and yet worse at the same time with all of the changes occurring.
i have read many a thread on here complaining that les hasn't taken us to the MNC, i wonder how we would do with pelini out and a new aggressive dc in who can match up to les miles risk taking style.
and if this thought has been posted before, i apologize i've overlooked it amongst the millions of other threads.

MANY MANY people at the time thought that Curley Hallman was a really good hire.
Hiring a new coach is ALWAYS at least a bit of a crapshoot. There's no way to accurately predict how it will work out. The possible potential downside is huge, and we have a lot to lose.
Personally, I like Miles, and I really hope he stays. Theoretically, we could do better, but it's a risky proposition.

Is there an LSU alumni coach out there that has ties to this school? We need to find someone who's not looking for the next best job to come along.

I agree with every word of this. Programs can get stale and stagnant with the same coach too long.

Its like any other job, its who's applying for the job.
One of the best at the breakin period, Gerry D. and we all know how that one turned out.
He had the great bring back the Magic, moved to pick up a great recruit, had a great one on one with Fans, Players and the higher ups at LSU.
I don't see a bad transition in the last three LSU coaches.
I don't see breaking-in, its more of how they transition from old job to the LSU job.

Right, but it's always a gamble.
Some people are hoping he goes to UM, but we're not guaranteed to get someone who wins at a high rate like Miles does.
People need to be careful what they wish for
