Well, lets look in the mirror. How many white coaches are there at black colleges? End of discussion. The horse is dead.

There is only one valid race card to play, in my opinion. Notre Dame vis-a-vis Tyrone Willingham. They never had a black coach before. And they never fired a coach without giving him 5 years.

(I say treat all coaching candidates and coaches like everybody else, and let the chips fall where they may. If there is a stink put up about the interviews, just point out the university employment policy which (in every case) says that all prospective employees are treated equally, regardless of race.)

After three years, Willingham was 21-15. After 3 years, Weiss was 22-15. Weiss is still the ND head coach, though his seat has gotten decidely hot. If you take the last three years, Weiss is 19-18, fully 3 games worse than Ty's tenure (so that, the program was going in the wrong direction under Ty doesn't fly).

Other than than I can't discern racial motives in college hirings. Again, Auburn didn't hire a lot of good white coaches, either. They made a comfortable hire of a former coordinator (much like Nebraska did with Pelini). It's understandable, and Auburn has the most to lose from it - not Turner Gill.

I'm tired of hearing about the black man.. If a Black African American is good enough to be HC.. Great.. The Black African American is going to be the President of the U.S. Stop complaining about affirmative action.. The best man/women should be selected for any position not their color of skin.

What if:

The NBA should only start 50% Black African Americans in a game and the other 50% should be white/hispanic.. No this doesn't happen because the NBA start's their best player's that mostly consist of black players. The coaches are mostly black because they are better basketball coaches. It is what it is... the best player or coach is hired..

It's because football is the "in between" sport in regards to hiring black coaches. Black coaches are the norm in the NBA and college basketball because of the ratio of black to white players. White managers or Hispanic managers are the norm in MLB because of the ratio of White/Hispanic to black players. Football is a mix between the two in the NFL and NCAA. You have as many white players as there are black players.

a lot of truth in this....

Also, in addition to player composition, the TARGET MARKET of the school dictates WHO is hired, as they bring in the money.

Black schools do it the same way.
It's a money issue.

A black man is soon to be President of the United States. I don't think that anyone is holding the black man down, except the black man himself.

Auburn should be put on probation for not hiring Turner Gill. He is more qualified than the guy they hired.

No. They should be able to hire whoever they want. Qualified or not, regardless of race.

100% correct

as another poster posted, the best way is to involve minority coaches as individual position coaches first....

it is not like in a corporation where a bad hire may affect production or ????
but will not bring the company down...
in football, hiring a bad HC, can bring a program down (true of any color) but you need to consider the composition of your customer so if the HC fails, the program fall will not be as great.

let the minority coaches work their way up as position coaches, then the ADs, will have the ammunition needed to hire them, while covering their own back.

Congress and Obama should look into this and impose some harsh penalties for not hiring balck coaches. Teams are predominantly black, the coaches should be black also.

Problem.....forced to interview a minority. How does a black know that he is being interviewed out of REAL interest in his coaching or just because of his skin color??? NMSU has a black AD, Boston, I think. He interviewed Norton and he declined. They have gone down the list of coaches but there is little interest. OKAY.....Vance Joesph is waiting to interview. This would be for the job, as they have already complied with NCAA.Watch the black AD's and who they hire? Now that is interesting.

why does it matter what colro the coach is, hire the most qualified, just because you can play doesnt mean you can coach, winning is all that matters
