I'd be shocked to learn that he makes half of that as a position coach. I suspect he's right in the $275k to $350k range as New Orleans DL coach. LSU would have to pay more than usual for a position coach, which is why I think he gets an associate head coach tag or recruiting coordinator to justify the extra pay. I suspect we can afford $250k or so.

And I don't KNOW man, I'm just going by what everybody else makes. Position coaches in the NFl, with experience, make $300k to $400k, maybe. So, will I drop dead from shock if O is making $500k? No, but that still seems a little high.
(And they are reevaluating EVERYTHING in the league, right now, with a 14% layoff, the salary cap, coaching salaries and officiating salaries are the next big items to be potentially cut. And only the coaches are non-union.)

I sure as hell hope he comes here. Im not sold that he will but it would be a great addition.

I have a friend who coaches the d-line at captain shreve and there entire staff is at the dome this weekend, they saw Coach O and Miles walking around together at some point last night I believe, I think Sonny might of said something about it as well.

Ya"ll aren't the least bit concerned about recruiting violations if O is at LSU? This guy has a reputation of being a very shady character.

Hopefully that was due to desperation from trying to recruit at Ole Miss.

He was at USC before that - the very definition of Shady Recruiting in the 21st century (see Reggie Bush scandal).

Except for the fact that the Advocate has basically quoted him saying that he would be interested in doing exactly that.
Do not discount happiness over money. O has said that he misses the college game and recruiting, and that he is very happy to be back home in LA. I get the feeling from some of the quotes that I've read that he may be reluctant to uproot his family again. there are numerous examples of coaches who have taken what would be considered backwards steps in their coaching career to get back into what they are comfortable with (Saban and Crowton, to name a few that have ties here).
Besides, if he were the DL coach and RC at LSU, he wouldn't exactly be on food stamps! They do pay pretty well.
And for the guy who's itching to reply to this post with "LINK?" for the Orgeron quotes, don't bother. I'm not going to dig for them. One of the main sources was an article in the Advocate a few weeks back, right about the time that Kiffin got the Vols job.

And clearly there is some fire behind the smoke. We absolutely would not have heard murmurings from Tennessee, LSU, and very slightly USC, if Orgeron has no interest in returning to college. Clearly he wants to be DC (he was directly quoted as stating that), but you are also correct that he clearly expressed interest in doing exactly what many (myself included) predict he will do: return to college (at LSU) as a DL/Associate Head Coach and get back into recruiting - something he cannot do in the NFL.
