Porter was an alum, one of the best players in their history. They were trying to recapture their fan base. Not great reasons to hire a coach, but they had reasons.

Yea, but since Larry's a really good recruiter, it might just play right into Nutt's hand for a couple of years. Seriously, I've thought at times that Nutt might actually pursue that kind of situation. Question is...are they naive enough to offer it to him?

First I don't think Freeze is going anywhere. 2nd I don't think Nutt would take the job at Memphis, b/c Nutt has to go to a team that is already established. That way no one knows for a couple of years that he's a lousy coach.

I can't imagine anyone but bottom-feeders from non-BCS conferences being interested in Nutt right now. Why would any "established team" want him as their coach? He turned OM into a dumpster fire. I don't think he has much in the way of options at this point. If he feels otherwise, he's delusional.
Freeze is he lowest paid coach in FBS. He's going somewhere if Arkansas State doesn't step up to the plate salary-wise. Why else would he stay there?
