Honest question about Riley, Aranda, etc.

Riley - Going into the Final 4 matchup with Lincoln, the narrative was his style would never work against SEC teams - and it was all about his faults. This year, sure he's undefeated, but he's struggled against vastly less superior teams - I would think if another school was going after him, we'd be the first to point out that he barely beat Kansas (the worst team in FBS) with Caleb Williams. They struggled against a crappy Tulane team and an average West Virginia team. Why all the LSU fan excitement for him versus some of the others? Because he's young and has an exciting offense? The tight wins this year with very superior talent is eye opening.
Aranda - I love Dave Aranda as much as anyone. But for folks to say he's better than Jimbo, Tucker, Riley, etc. What are basing it on? He has a 2 loss team this year, and has less than a 2 year resume with
Tucker - outside of this year, his head coaching resume if full of losses each year. His pass defense this year even with a highly ranked team is atrocious.
I know the answer to all these questions are just wait until ___ gets to coach with LSU's talent!
I think the message is there is no home run, sure thing hire. In fact, I'd argue that Jimbo has probably the best resume with a national championship, built a program in the SEC that seems like it is a consistent winner now that he's recruited his way (with Kellen Mond and a backup QB).
It'll be an interesting few weeks...

Riley is what everyone thought Joe Brady was.
His Achilles heel has been defensive recruiting and performance, but I think that has less to do with him and more to do with Oklahoma being in Oklahoma.
Hire a good DC and we will win multiple titles.
Hell, even without a good dc, his offense will be good enough to have us in or near the final 4 most years, and in the playoff every year when it expands.

quote:OK. But if you do the "honest question" with Jimbo Fisher the way you did with the others: Jimbo won a national championship but then turned Florida State into a dumpster fire of a program with a .500 record when he left.

No one is really saying Dave >> Jimbo (minus the unknown factor) or Riley but Tucker? Look at their defenses over the years and tell me who you think is a better football coach.

Your first thought about a DC was correct. The second one started drifting off towards moronic. . .
Get a great offensive minded HC and hire a good DC that can recruit. That should be successful at LSU.

What if FSU wouldn’t commit to everything he needed? Why is FSU still failing how many years since?
I am not in position to look up stats, but didn’t Jimbo have like 7 years of double digit wins? Why is he being bashed for one bad season on his way out when his all talent QB got injured to start the season. Perhaps the coaches that followed him sucked?

Who outside of Alabama beats LSU in the sec if we had a Riley offense and an average defense?
Obviously a good dc is better, but his offenses are so good and would be so absurd with our talent, we will be in the hunt even with someone short of Dave Aranda at DC.

I don't remember reading this anywhere and certainly never thought it myself going into that game. I wasn't really worried about Jalen Hurts being able to beat us, but that was solely about Hurts' ability and not Riley's offense. His offense has been effective against SEC defenses (against Georgia and Alabama).
