Hindsight being 20/20 but could promoting Monken have saved Miles

Been a while since all of this happened so the exact details could be off... but when Jimbo left, Miles wanted to promote Monken, there was a big back lash, and he was urged to make an outside hire....enter Gary Crowton. Of course in the short term that worked out with the 2007 championship, but the next season the bottom fell out and Miles was forever changed with how he approached offense.

The Jags hire Monken as WR coach after scouts were impressed with the route running abilities of his receivers at one of the all star games and he began his ascent.

I wonder if promoting a guy then more in line with the modern passing game whom Miles trusted could have changed things for him.

It has more to do with 7 pick sixes and Maleveto than anything else. Perfect storm of RP being a jabroni, a terrible promotion of DCs causing GC to throw JL to the wolves... An 8-5 season.

Think about this. Andrew fricking Hatch started football games for LSU in 2008.

Probably has more to do with Lee getting beat like a dog all year in 2008 and throwing to the defense every other play that made Miles shell up for the rest of his tenure to ensure the QB never “loses” another game for him again

Always liked Monken, but Les would’ve been meddling it up on gameday for sure.

2008 completely screwed up Les when it came to how the offense operated

Outside of 2013 with Mett, OBJ, Landry, Hill

The offense was very concerned with ball security and safety. Lack of passing over the middle, 1-2 WR routes. I understand playing great defense, ball control and good special teams was always what Les hung his hat on but getting so conservative and predictable on offense came back to bite him at the end of his LSU career.

I knew Monken when he was here. Les wanted to promote him, but AD vetoed it. He would have been great in 07, but who knows about 08 with no QB.

I think the correct question is, where would Les be if he didn't kick perrilloux off the team.

several rantards lost their damn mind over monken being promoted to OC. the most rantarded were damned near inconsolable.
