That's the same story I read as well. I also read he loves it at Houston. Thus, he may be using the news of the LSU offer as leverage to extract more money out of Houston, as Houston's AD has said that they would match any offer Herman got.

That's the only wrinkle.

... but why would you do that, on Thanksgiving, the day before your final game of the season, risking that your players are up all night reading message boards or twitter instead of getting to sleep to wake up at 8am for game prep...?

According to LSUtigers9458, the deal is $6.75 million dollars plus incentives to bring the total deal up to $7.75 million dollars, plus a housing stipend, and the deal is for five years if I remember correctly.

Herman spoke to LSU officials on Wednesday, after things soured with Jimbo LSU officials contacted Herman's agent and negotiations began. Herman agreed to negotiations and told them to keep it under wraps until after their game in Memphis. Some Texas asshat was feeling the burn and leaked some shite cuz they know Herman's gone.

Herman to LSU. Will be announced Saturday.

I hate my life.

So if I'm not here tomorrow morning at 2 am (I won't be) and someone issues me a ban bet and I'm not here to accept (I won't be), does that mean I'm scared and a fraud or might it mean I have a life and found something else to do besides sit in here?

According to Hannagriff, Jimbo asked for a 10 year deal.

No offense to 9458, but Radio Dude > Random Poster

Random has a long history of getting stuff right, he says Herman. 9458 says Jimbo. For the sake of argument, pretend neither knows what they're talking about and consider the following.

Hanny says Jimbo is out of it and LSU met with Herman, while Texas site owners are saying UT in a state of panic. ESPN, NBC, Fox and CBS are reporting Herman and LSU are working towards a deal.

Yes, all mention Texas, but none of them talk about Texas as a favorite. Herman and LSU were working on a deal.

I just have a very hard time believing a man who kisses his players would allow this to happen hours before his final game as head coach of Houston.

I don't think he wants to leave Houston. He has also said that he loves it at Houston, but they all say that. In addition, he has also said that right now Texas wouldn't be a good place to work. So I think they leaked it to get more money out of Houston, as Houston's athletic director has said that they won't be outbid by anyone for Herman to stay.

There comes a point where it isn't about money anymore. Saban wouldn't leave Bama for $15m/year. Great coaches want to compete and win championships, and that simply isn't going to happen at Houston.

because he probably leaked it to a Texas booster, which would explain why many Texas boosters went into panic mode after they heard the news

Look, I'm not an insider and don't have a source. But I hate seeing this misconception that his agent "leaked" the deal to representatives at Texas. You're confusing "leaked" with doing his job. He has been talking to someone at Texas for a while now, that's a fact. Whenever he gets that offer from LSU it's the agents JOB to tell Texas to leverage for more money. He didn't leak shite to Texas. Let's put this rumor to bed.

These are taken from a chat I had earlier with UT buddy of mine

quote:

I hate all the politics at UT

Idk about that. From what I've heard they were worried cuz Herman supposedly drinks a lot

They don't seem to be even trying to pursue Herman

That's the main problem with UT I feel like winning is not the priority anymore. Always worried about politics and optics

Idk heard from multiple sources about that. UT baseball and track coach has had major alcohol incidents recently

UT has had very limited contact with Herman lately though

TX governor is also involved cuz he doesn't want UT to take another state school's coach

UT prez said decision will be made after reg season ends as well. So tmrw should be interesting. May have to convert to LSU if Strong comes back for another yr

Personally I think it's legit besides the Herman is for sure signing part for now.
Still think he's gonna stall unless UT straight up tells him he's not a candidate

Man...if we get Fisher who is a proven elite head coach with a national championship under his belt, and you guys get another unproven head coach like Charlie Strong, I'll be so happy I'll buy my wife a new diamond ring for Christmas. Not really because I already promised my wife I would buy her one for Christmas already anyway.

This is a few times I've seen the "drinking" part in regards to Herman and it always comes from. UT fan.

Is there any merit to it?

If so, is it just overblown due to sour grapes?

If I'm reading this correctly, the timeline was like this.

- Texas contacts Herman's representation
- Texas is given a timeline [Reminder: Herman waited last year and missed all the 'good' jobs.]
- Texas, being Texas, assumed that was just bluster from Herman
- Texas ignores the timeline
- LSU swoops in
- Texas, never thinking anyone could turn them down, panics

^ And I'd still say Herman is 75% or better.

Or it could be as simple as:

-It's true and done
-Someone got wind of it and told Texas insiders (Sexton maybe?)
-Story comes out because it is indeed a story relevant to Texas

It's not all about money. I have heard that in reference to him.

He can't afford a loss in that conference but he can afford 1 and even sometimes 2 in ours..

It's about opportunity.

Yes he may love Houston, Baton Rouge isn't that far.. and they do typically love where they end up..

There is also a limit you will pay a coach, regardless how much money you have.. even when you have all the money in the world.

He's limited at Houston without an expansion. Again, I feel like people are really undervaluing LSU being a sleeping giant for potential dynasty. They put more players into the NFL than any other school. Imagine an actual above average HC here with this type of talent. An actual x and o's coach.

They didn't need to leak it like that to get a raise. He just got a raise without doing it this way last season.. I just highly doubt he would go about it at this type of approach. But hey, I don't personally know him, so who knows.

And he did it in his very first post and none of the others made that same assertion, and just like clockwork it came to fruition. Indeed, he has never wavered, while the others have wavered back and fourth a few times until they finally settled on Herman. I believe the other two are being played as part of LSU's disinformation campaign.

so how mad exactly are you going to be when you have had MONTHS to wrap herman up and texas comes in and hires him?

Personally, I never wanted Herman to begin with because he is totally unproven at this point in time. He may turn out to be the next Charlie Strong and then again he may turn out to be very good coach, but one thing is for sure, nobody knows where he'll end up at this point. So at most he is a very big gamble at this point. Meanwhile, if we go by the odds, the odds are he will turn out to be a bust just like Charlie Strong since far more up and comers turn out to be bust than winners. Now he does appear to be above average but then again it's still a very big gamble. Good luck. You will need it.
