then again, maybe it's not a nightmare since LSU doesn't run a spread and Saban has said his teams are well suited to stop teams like LSU.

Everyone knows that Smart is only the DC in title, that Saban calls the defense. So if Saban did that than he would basically be stating that he needs help coaching the defense. As egotistical as Saban is I can't see that ever happening.

Saban leaves for the Jets, keeps Rex as DC, then the NFL moves them to the SEC West. Belichick leaves NE for the open Bama job. Chavis hires O for DL coach.

Saban is a defense theoretician at heart. Used to call Belicheck twice a week when he was at LSU and discuss defense ideas and schemes. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he hired him so he could learn from him about stopping spreads. Not to mention Saban has enough stature that CP would probably like to learn a few things from him.
